Exsilium’s final days are here, and there are choices to be made.

Along with manning the Transporter for its final deactivation, the AI will also provide coordinates for destruction of the most pertinent UE military bases. Destroying these will ensure that the UE doesn’t reconstruct its AI now that it’s been destroyed by the efforts of the Transports and the sacrifice of Angel, and that the UE will lose its cross-dimensional technology. No one wants to be followed home, after all, right?

These missions are volunteer-only, and will require fighters and planners alike to go smoothly. The missions themselves may be played out in the threads provided for them on the log, or you may handwave your character’s involvement as background info for the goodbyes portion of the log. The missions will be completed earlier in the week, on the 7th - 9th, and the final activation of the Transporter will occur on the 14th.

Now then… do you stay? Or do you go?

Those who stay will be needed to help rebuild the world. It will be reeling after the lost of its government. Citizens of the UE will begin to suffer extreme withdrawal symptoms after the loss of their placating drug, verstatsi, and the anti-addictive drug will need to be distributed to save lives — and that will be only the start of their troubles. Those who stay will have a long and difficult road ahead of them, and their help will be sorely needed.

Those who go, can go to anywhere they’d like. Any world that has ever been touched by the Transporter is able to be accessed, and that goes for any time ever touched by the Transporter as well. Characters need not return to the canon points they originally left, nor do they need to return to their original world at all. And when they go, they’ll have full memories of their time in Exsilium. Characters can even spend their last week visiting various worlds, but come March 14th, the world they’re in will be the world they stay in.

Choose wisely, Transports. The war is over, both sides have been brought low, and you’re free, for once, to do as you will.

The final log is here, and will be open for tagging for as long as anyone would like to keep tagging it, there's no intended date for closing it. Main community posts will be allowed until March 14th.

And as a final note, Tess commissioned a song for Exsilium from Alexander Rosetti. c: It’s a pretty friggin sweet one, and can be heard right here. Let’s have a themesong to play us off in our final log! Happy threading, and to players still with us and players who have joined us for any part of the ride, you have the profound gratitude of the entire mod team, past and current, for making this game such a fantastic and memorable place. Thank you for giving me the chance to tell stories with you guys… it’s been an unforgettable experience that I will always count among my favorite memories.

Peter Parker has decoded the rest of the message first mentioned here (and ICly mentioned here). This was done in the timeframe during the mission, and it can be assumed the post was sent directly to the tablets of anyone there. The message that’s been scrambling the AI is just a set of coordinates and a simple message: kill me. Now, this doesn’t need to be logged out to count ICly, but to everyone whose characters would pursue the coordinates, we’d like to know their course of action!

Following the coordinates will indeed lead into the UE council’s base of operations, and specifically into an underground room within the complex. There they will discover a vast bank of computers, all networked together and running the same program: the UE’s newly "elected" Presidential AI. This is the same AI that Soldier Blue’s mission was sent to implant the Transport AI into, and the two competing programs are now warping and corrupting each other. The Transport AI is keeping the Presidential AI from launching any lethal attacks on the Transports in the future, though just barely, but it’s also fragmenting the Transport AI’s programing.

Investigating the programming (you did bring a computer-savvy character with you, right?) will uncover that destroying this version of the Transport AI will destroy the AI in the present of Exsilium, as well. They’re inextricably linked, thanks to the time travel involved in implanting it.

So, will you put the Transport AI out of its misery, and destroy the UE Presidential AI at the same time? Will you leave it? Will you try something else? Feel free to answer within this post, and ask away if you have any questions!

The signal that’s been giving the AI trouble is being decoded, but it’s slow going. Thanks to Peter, what we do know is that it’s originating from the day the UE became official. History indicates that there were widespread celebrations on this day, as can be read about in UE histories and Initiative-maintained histories alike. The signal comes specifically from Vandrova, the capitol of the UE… and someone’s going to have to go in there and see what’s going on, if they want to get their AI back to functional order. The good news is that this will finally break the Groundhog’s Day timeloop!

There is no one telling Transports that they have to go in and fix this, since this version of the Initiative is too covert and secretive to ever dream of anything as bold as going into the heart of the UE — meaning that this mission is entirely voluntary. But characters who do go will find that the celebrations are going a little… strangely.

Transports will ‘port into Vandrova at 9AM, Feb 14th, 2742. People around them will be joyful and celebrating, handing out candies to anyone that passes, crying happily about “an end to suffering” and a “united world”. But sometimes time seems to freeze for an instant. The revelers appear to glitch right in front of Transport eyes, and when time soothes itself out again, riots will have replaced the parties. Suddenly people are shouting angrily in the streets, tearing down UE regalia, openly attacking the armed forces that struggle to keep order. Transports might see this for five seconds, or up to five minutes, but then time blinks back into the celebrations. And, eventually, another flash of riots. Then another. And another. It does seem like the riots are coming more often and lasting longer, doesn’t it?

While this mission to find the source of the broadcast is underway, the second part of the signal will be decoded. It will be a message, and its content will lead Transports to the exact origin of the broadcast. What they do from there is up to them. (But in the interests of using their actions to shape the upcoming events, we will ask players to let us know OOCly what action their characters will take. Look for a post regarding this coming up tomorrow!)

Here is the log, and a second informational post about the second half of the message and the effect this will have on things tomorrow!

No matter how eventful your February 7th happens to be (or not be), characters won't have much of a chance to brace themselves unless they're really into Bill Murray movies: From now until February 14th, Exsilium is repeating February 7th. Again and again. Like a cd skipping back through the same seven seconds of a Kenny Loggins cd.

The day's not entirely the same, however; players can react to the looping daily activities, unchanging calendar, and RPG-esque stock responses more stock than usual! You'll even get a warning message from AI of some kind of anomaly...and AI will keep reminding you. Every day.

What your character does in this horrible time loop is entirely up to you. Freak out? Break the same shotglass 6 times in a row? Sleep through the entire thing?

A mass log will be up shortly and linked here for those who'd like a kind of mingling reaction space. OPEN LOG HERE

And, as always, questions can come here in the post.

If I haven't succeeded in getting Caddyshack music stuck in your head I'm either too old or just not trying hard enough. Either way, HAPPY TIMELOOP WEEK!!!

With all the Genetics and Cloning Missions coming to a head, the Transports face one final obstacle. One final hurdle. One final foe.

free glitter text and family website at FamilyLobby.com

Your objective is simple: go forth and do. Collect information, good will, money, food, terrible life choices, all of it's as your character decides.

The why of being here is simple. There's a big Genetics and Cloning Technology Convention being held by the best and brightest corporations within the United Earth. Here is where decisions will be made or broken, and here is where key information on the origins of the UE AI and the UE itself will be found.

Anyone who attends the "Historical Relevance of Progress and Technological Achievement Within Our Great Nation" panel will gain information on the beginnings of the United Earth, and the United Earth Artificial Intelligence. However, there is a whole conference to disrupt or blackmail or otherwise pull strings within, and beyond the conference?

Vegas, baby!

Everything people have said about Las Vegas in modern times is present in a big way. Major shows, lights that keep it almost day-bright for the whole of the Neo Las Vegas stretch, themed hotels, carnival rides, indoor canals, interactive historical recreation environments, and, of course, lots and lots of gambling. Most is done with electronic casino debit cards, which are provided in gift bags handed out to those attending the Conference. This city still never sleeps, and people are more inclined to be loose lipped and handsy happy cuddlebugs and possibly dragging you down to an alter for a cheap wedding done by a Cleopatra look-alike. (No judging!)

Player Characters will arrive within the laundry facility of the Nuclear Hotel and Casino. Built to resemble a large nuclear reactor, it's next-door to the convention facility and host to the largest number of attending members. They have nightly shows of reaction meltdowns because they're just tasteful like that, but the hotel as a whole has no actual nuclear energy in use.

You have from January 31st to February 4th to achieve your objective, Transports. What you do lies within your own power...

... But it'd be nice if you did manage to change the course of history while you're at it all.

The log can be found here on the log community!

Per the norm, questions can be asked in the "Questions" thread below.

This post is for collecting the results of those teams who went out on the missions to find out about the UE AI as detailed here.

The set up of this will be pretty simple! There will be a form below to fill out, and each group will receive its own comment to reply to. Each group needs to have one person from it fill out the form and reply to the appropriate comment with it.

And that's it! You do not need to have completed the log to reply here, simply have an idea of what you plan to fail and succeed in. The sooner we receive these results, the better!

Should you have any further questions or clarifications you need resolved, comment right here.

WELCOME TO UEAI INVESTIGATION.

MEAT AND POTATOES )

10 January 2014 @ 07:52 pm
In the wake of the closure of apps and moderator apps, we’re here today to bring you some heavy news: we have made the decision to close Exsilium. Unfortunately there were no moderator sign-ups, and as indicated previously, we’re therefore unable to keep the game running. The current mod team has decided that instead of seeing the game struggle or start to burn out, we would rather put our all into creating some memorable final events, and end on a high note. End game events will tie the plot together and will take us through to the very start of March, after which Exsilium will be closed.

A few of the changes we’ll see in game include the following:
  • The January AC will require a check in to express interest in remaining for the end game. There will be no AC in February.
  • Applications will be open continuously from January 12th through the first week of February. As of February 7th, 2014, applications will be permanently closed.
  • For the duration of end game events, Betsy will be stepping up and assisting Liz as a head mod.

The events will be explained in greater detail as they near, but here is a summary of what you can expect:
  • Within the next week, the Cloning & Genetics missions will wrap up, and the snow will let up in Exsilium.
  • In late January, Transports will discover the origin of the United Earth AI, and implant the Transport AI into its newly designed programming.
  • Shortly afterward, Transports will attend World Unification Day, a historic celebration of the birth of the United Earth. The timeline begins to warp while they’re there, and the mood of the celebrations begin to trend toward rioting instead.
  • As February begins, a series of coded transmissions will start broadcasting regularly to Exsilium. Transports will find they’re the only ones equipped to handle the encoding, and may also find some strange elements intruding on their dreams… including sharing dream landscapes with other Transports.
  • Mid February, the Transports will find themselves starring in a present-day remake of Groundhog’s Day, as reality continues to break down, and the space-time continuum loses coherency.
  • By late February, reality will be moving close to the brink of collapsing, with numerous other worlds leaking into Exsilium. Transports must kick off a final confrontation with the UE, destroying their world-hopping technology and center of power.
  • In the final week of Exsilium, Transports will be given a choice: stay in this world (now without either Initiative or a strong United Earth presence) and help rebuild; leave for their own world and retain all, some, or none of the memories of their time here; or follow someone else into another world.
  • The final deactivation of the Transport Pad will be on March 7th, 3314/2014.

I, Liz, speak for the entire mod team (past and present) when I say that running Exsilium has been a pleasure, and I’ve been incredibly proud to watch it turn into the game it has become today. With everyone’s help, I hope that we can make the ending of Exsilium as enjoyable as its duration has been!

Hello Exsilium! This is Ishmael, and I come to you guys today with two announcements: one, head moderator and plot moderator applications will be opening again today, and remain open through until the 8th of January. Two, I am resigning as a head moderator from Exsilium.

Please read on below the cut. )

Hellooooo, Exsilium! Pretend this is a mod account, I needed a paid for a poll. SO THEN, two things!

One, we're changing up the way we do apps slightly. Previously we've started accepting people and allowing them to post to the intro log as soon as we can, but that has always given rise to questions like "but are you sure everyone's coming in in the same wave" and "but my app wasn't accepted until the 5th day, where the crap has my character been all this time". So we're tweaking things slightly!

Starting on Jan 1st, apps will be processed as usual, but no community acceptance will be given until Jan 8th. The newcomer log will be put up on Jan 8th as well, so people are free to tag in in a rush that's a little bit more true-to-IC.

This is an IC change, as well! Feel free to have characters wonder why the Transporter isn't spitting people out on the 1st, as usual.

And secondly, the poll! Our OOC comm becomes a pretty busy place after the 1st of every month, and it's easy to miss things. So what would you guys say to having all OOC intros placed on a single post meant for new players/characters to introduce themselves on? This post would be pinned to the top of the comm for the week of apps as well as mod plurked, so there'd be no fear of people not seeing your intro. We leave it up to you if you'd like to change it, or keep the system as is!

Good evening Exsilium!

Tonight I come to you with several organizational gifts. First off is a new Navigation Page (proper linking through materials to be coming in the next few weeks)! While some information, like Jobs in Exsilium, are better answered on the Winter Wonderland post due to the current state of the game, this new navigation page should be a simple means of finding the sorts of information pages and locations you want to use, when you want to use them.

As you may see on the Navigation Page, we now have a Game Changing Mission Listing! More missions will be added over time as more become available. Right now, most missions listed are in the category of the first Arc the game voted to complete earlier this month -- concerning Cloning & Genetics. To sign up for any one of these missions, copy the provided form into the comment thread for what type of mission you'd like. That is, for Cloning & Genetics, comment under the "CLONING & GENETICS" thread, and so forth. Every mission is numbered in each section. Be sure to include that number in your sign up!

We highly suggest posting to the OOC or using other means of communication to find interested parties to go on any of the listed missions. The Transport AI (formerly known as the Initiative AI) has come up with suggestions for times and places Transports might go, but any mission on the Game Changing Mission page is entirely optional ICly. Only fellow Transports can force a Transport to go on a mission against their will.

If you have suggestions for missions that would fit into any of the current categories, or have suggestions on other broad-reach categories to have missions in, please leave those comments in the appropriate thread on that page.

But wait! What's that other mission type mentioned? Due to the success of the player run quick mission format we had while on the moon, we will be retaining a quick mission format for private player missions to run alongside game changing missions. Unlike game changing missions, private player missions will not lead to a direct effect on the game as a whole. They are instead meant to allow players to explore any avenue of creativity they desire within the context of a Time Travel game.

To sign up for a quick mission, please go to the quick mission page here!

And for one last piece of information, we now have a Tag Change Request page! As you can see, a few of you folks had already discovered it, but as of tonight, it is now a live, active page to use in order to make tag change requests. From now forward, we will be processing requests from that page. No more hunting around for where you need to ask to have something done about tags on the communities!

As always, we are open to feedback, questions, and comments on these changes. Please ask questions in the thread labeled "questions" below. Suggestions and comments are welcomed in the same place!

In future weeks we will be attempting to continue cleaning up navigation and information within the community. It's been a big project, and will continue to be, so cheer for us and send a little extra energy our way! In the meantime, the head mods will continue to brainstorm with the plot mods to bring more options to the Game Changing Missions sign-up menu. We thank all of you for your continuing patience!

We have a log up for getting your feet wetcold HERE, and now we have a log for the packing and fussing and putzing on the moonbase HERE!

The latter comes with details. CLICKY ME AND DETAILS FOREVER )

05 December 2013 @ 09:13 pm
First, our log community now has both an "! open" and "! closed" tag to be used by choice to mark a post as open to all characters and players, or closed to a select group. These are entirely optional; we will review the usage of these tags again in three months to see if there's any change that will be further beneficial at that time.

Now, in more exciting news... With the poll for voting on the next plot arc in Exsilium now closed, we're happy to announce that by a narrow margin...

The Altering and Controlling the Development of Cloning Technologies and Genetic Alteration Technologies Arc will be completed first!

More details on what that entails will be coming up in the next few days (up to a week), but in the interim, starting today, Transports will be able to move Earthside. They may choose to stay on the moon. That is at their own descretion. The Transport Pad will be coming down due to system strains noted by the AI, which is in part due to needing to bring the Aristeas technology back online. (The Aristeas technology is the means by which Transports can be resurrected.) The Scouting group has managed to make contact with the current Initiative Group, hereafter called the New Initiative. The New Initiative has been able to provide a location and ability to connect to the excess power being used in the main city of Winter Wonderland Exsilium, but they don't have the resources for finding places for 350+ people to live, let alone to clothe and feed them.

Transports will be the only ones in control of the Transport Pad, or any use there-of. The New Initiative has no rights to it, and has only bargained to work with the Transports to achieve mutual goals concerning the United Earth and the state of current events. Control of time travel remains in Transport hands.

The information on the original Winter Wonderland post still stands! Characters will be responsible for finding their own housing, which can be achieved through bartering, favours, pleading, or strong-arming, if they're unable to build a shelter of their own. Initially all Transports will be brought down to the facility which will be housing the Transport Pad, located about a two miles away from the main city, ironically called Exsilium. It is not located over London, as the old city of Exsilium was. It will be possible to stay in the facility where the Transport Pad is located for short terms; there isn't enough room for all the Transports to stay there permanently, so only those with difficulties navigating the snow will be granted a pass to stay for longer, along with the Old Initiative Employees who were stranded on the moon with the Transports the last few months.

The Transport Pad will begin being dismantled now, and will be shuttled down to Earth and reconstructed and functional again by December 7th, ICly. At that point, missions will technically begin again, though it may take the mod team until as late as the 14th to have the new roster of missions up for selection in regards to the next three plot arcs Exsilium the game will be moving through. We're working our hardest on this now, to be able to bring it to you guys as soon as possible!

Please ask any questions about our setting here, in the original question thread! We will be answering them as quickly as possible.

26 November 2013 @ 08:47 pm
We're asking for two things to go up to vote, as detailed below, along with information on why only two!

Voting information below the cut! )

Voting will be closed on December 5th, 2013, 11:59PM EST. Please ask questions below in the "Questions" thread so that we may make sure to see and answer those questions in a timely manner. This post is also an open space for discussion and/or brainstorming on different small plots and/or plot elements which could apply under these three broad arcs.

26 November 2013 @ 08:13 pm
The results are in, and after a trip over to Random.Org the following 25 names have come out on top. Congratulations! Names beneath the cut. )You all have the dubious honor of scouting out the situation Earth-side, and reporting back what it is you find to the people up at the Moon Base. You leave 11/27 0300, arriving planetside at 0800. Gotta love that trip back down.

All those on the scouting mission will need to scavenge supplies beforehand from the Moon Base. They will be told about the temperatures, and as of tonight, the AI has successfully hacked some of the satellites in orbit around Earth to get good imagery of what the ground looks like. Based on heat signatures and taken images, the AI suspects they're dealing with snow, and smaller numbers of people living in scattered groups, centralized around one large, city-like group it plans to land the scouts.

Mission objectives are simple. Locate the Initiative and begin a dialog. It's suggested everyone make use of the holographic technology still maintained on the Moon Base in order to blend in with the locals. Be warned, the holographs don't hold up under actual touch, and they don't change what your footprints look like outside of immediate physical range.

Any and all non-humans will be met with fear, up to and including violence.

Be careful, and be on the lookout. This iteration of the Initiative works on the extreme keep their heads down side. Talk to everyone, and be as subtle as you can be. That's the best way to flush them out of hiding.

Plotting and questions invited below (questions to the questions thread only, please, to not be missed!). The game at large will go down to Earth the first week of December.

Edit: The Scouting log is now up here!

23 November 2013 @ 11:34 am

As some may have seen, the AI has announced a sudden sharp drop in radiation levels on the island of Exsilium. We're talking back to modern day levels of radiation, so well in the normal, nice, kind range that doesn't cause spontaneous mutation.

The question, of course, is how, and if this is the ticket down! The short answers are... too many ripples in the timestream lead things astray, and yes, now is time to start the reclamation process.

With sign-ups starting today and lasting through to Sunday, a group of Transports will be sent down to examine the state of Exsilium, two months after leaving. What they'll find will go something like the following... and boy, is it a doozy!
Note: The vote on how to solve the puzzle of Exsilium’s problem will be going up tomorrow. Voting has now been closed! This plot is a stop-gap to allow Transports back down on Earth in an uncomfortable situation, placing ongoing pressure on them to find an answer to the riddle of the United Earth (should they choose). This is not the fix for the United Earth problem!

Also, a move of everyone down to Earth again won't be in full swing until after December 1st. Until a location Earth-side that can support the Transport Pad and Aristeas Technology's energy demands can be found, a complete shift would be unfeasible. The official move down to Earth began on December 5th. Please refer here for more information!
More information beneath the cut... )Please direct all questions to the thread marked "Questions" below!

To sign up to volunteer to go down to Exsilium on the first scouting group, which can take up to 25 characters, please sign up in the "Scouting Mission" thread below!

The scouting group will be looking around for the first week and tasked with finding someplace that can support the Transport Pad's energy needs before bringing down those wishing to leave the Moon Base in early December.

HEY ALL, who remembers that one drunk guy? He didn't make it up to the moon base, but he's here in spirit.

Sort of.

Before everything went ka-boom, drunk guy (here out known as Sponde) gave Stephanie Brown a diamond drive containing various final thoughts, treasured memories, and etc written by Initiative employees killed in the nuke, who would like to have them back once the Transports undo the bombing and save everyone. Sort of like a personal time capsule! Because not only would they not remember the bombing or their final days once they're brought back, if the Transports do their job right, but they don't expect to be the same people when everything is restored. This is a way of carrying on who they used to be, to be given to whoever they end up being.

Also, Sponde was counting on Transports snooping through the files, and furthermore counting on the resulting guilt being a great motivator for the Transports to get around to saving everyone. Chronic alcoholics can be crafty too!

So what are these files? That's up to you! We'd like to make this a little extra curricular creative writing exercise. We're going to let players write the memoirs of Initiative employees, to be opened and read by characters on the moon base. OOCly, these will be randomly distributed throughout whoever signs up to participate. If you would like your character to receive a file, you have to write one! You can write more than one, and you don't have to have your character receive one if you just want to write some. If we end up with more memoirs than we have characters reading them, characters can receive more than one. We might even revoke the "write one to read one" rule, depending on how this goes and how many we get.

The New Transport log is up! This month we have a slight change, though. We'd like to ask the players of current characters to please keep your root comments confined to the various groups and organizations that set up root comments to greet new characters.

We highly encourage tagging around here, but since it's a log meant for new characters specifically, we ask that they be the ones to set up root threads to the entry. This is mostly so that when they're accepted, new characters aren't automatically pushed onto the 2nd and 3rd pages of the log. They're supposed to be the highlight of this log, after all!

Additionally, we encourage groups, stands, or anything catering to the new arrivals to have threads! Threads like that are fantastic, and give people a little extra structure to work with. Please comment to this entry if you would like a mod comment to set up your group's thread, using the form provided. That won't apply to this month's log, this month groups are welcome to comment anywhere they like. We'll make use of this system for next month, using anyone signed up on this page.

Thanks!

Comment with this information to have a mod-account comment for your group next month:

Dear Exsilium,
We come to you today in search of mods! We’re looking for two types of mod, specifically. We would like to add one or two people to the list mods, who upkeep pages like player contact and the taken list, and generally keep Exsilium moving smoothly from behind the scenes. It’s a glamorous job (a lie), full of fame and money (a bigger lie), and list mods get exclusive rights to firsthand witnessing of Ishmael and Liz going slowly insane (unfortunately not a lie)! But more seriously, this job involves updating the Taken Page about once a week, and routinely cleaning out the tags monthly, among other possible jobs.

If you’re interested in this, first off, we adore you. Seriously, thank you! It’s not always easy keeping a game of this size running, but with people willing to help keeping our various maintenance pages trim and current, we can focus on bringing you plots and events that keep the game moving. So, seriously, we really really appreciate the help!

We’re also looking for a third head mod to help us out with things, and this job is a bit trickier. As a head mod with Ishmael and Liz, your duties would include:
• Keeping up with and recording changes in the game resulting from plots and missions (including minor changes from personal missions)
• Handling player conflicts
• Helping to plan and run plots
• Answering plot questions
• Scheduling and accommodating player plots
• Dancing the silly chicken dance at least once a week with Ishmael.

Everything but the first and the last task would be done in tandem with us, it’s really just the "recording changes" job that is large enough as to demand we add a wholly new head mod to our team. We’re looking for someone that’s dedicated, responsible, and reliable above all else. It’s a big job, but we love doing it, and hope you will too!

To be considered for a helper mod, fill out this form:

To be considered for a head mod, fill out this form:

All comments to this entry will be screened for privacy! We’ll review any responses we get up until Saturday the 2nd, and announce our decision on Sunday the 3rd. And thank you so much for considering helping out, we really, really appreciate it! You guys are what makes this game fantastic.

Hugs and Kissies,
Your Adoring Mods
