At last, an end to Caddyshack music.

The signal that’s been giving the AI trouble is being decoded, but it’s slow going. Thanks to Peter, what we do know is that it’s originating from the day the UE became official. History indicates that there were widespread celebrations on this day, as can be read about in UE histories and Initiative-maintained histories alike. The signal comes specifically from Vandrova, the capitol of the UE… and someone’s going to have to go in there and see what’s going on, if they want to get their AI back to functional order. The good news is that this will finally break the Groundhog’s Day timeloop!

There is no one telling Transports that they have to go in and fix this, since this version of the Initiative is too covert and secretive to ever dream of anything as bold as going into the heart of the UE — meaning that this mission is entirely voluntary. But characters who do go will find that the celebrations are going a little… strangely.

Transports will ‘port into Vandrova at 9AM, Feb 14th, 2742. People around them will be joyful and celebrating, handing out candies to anyone that passes, crying happily about “an end to suffering” and a “united world”. But sometimes time seems to freeze for an instant. The revelers appear to glitch right in front of Transport eyes, and when time soothes itself out again, riots will have replaced the parties. Suddenly people are shouting angrily in the streets, tearing down UE regalia, openly attacking the armed forces that struggle to keep order. Transports might see this for five seconds, or up to five minutes, but then time blinks back into the celebrations. And, eventually, another flash of riots. Then another. And another. It does seem like the riots are coming more often and lasting longer, doesn’t it?

While this mission to find the source of the broadcast is underway, the second part of the signal will be decoded. It will be a message, and its content will lead Transports to the exact origin of the broadcast. What they do from there is up to them. (But in the interests of using their actions to shape the upcoming events, we will ask players to let us know OOCly what action their characters will take. Look for a post regarding this coming up tomorrow!)

Here is the log, and a second informational post about the second half of the message and the effect this will have on things tomorrow!
