are you tired of modpost yet

Emergency mission alert! Someone threw rocks at the United Earth capitol and alerted them to the fact that some of those people they supposedly bombed to smithereens a bit ago are still kicking. The Initiative anticipates either another strike or an outright invasion by the UE, and they aim to sweep everything under the rug that they can, as fast as they can.

This means, in short, a trip to the Wild West!

Once the transports have gathered for their mission (Jan 12th), it will be hastily explained that the Initiative needs Gerald "Moony" Jackson, a strange man who has always been obsessed with "life among the stars", to be elected as Mayor of Black Rock, New Mexico, in 1884. It will NOT be added that this is a mission they'd been holding off on until they had enough transport numbers to assuredly sway the vote, but the attack on the UE has had to move their schedule forward a lot faster. Thus, they encourage any transport with the ability to change the minds of others (with science, magic, or plain old convincing) to encourage natives to the town to elect Jackson as well.

Transports will spend 7 days (until Jan 19th) in Black Rock, and will be mostly left to their own devices in terms of food, shelter, and entertainment (although a fixed amount of money is provided to each transport), while they do what they can to convince the town to vote in crazy old Moony. The votes will be cast on the 7th day, Jackson will be elected, and half an hour afterward, all those new arrivals to Black Rock will vanish as suddenly as they'd appeared.

Upon returning home to Exsilium (Jan 19th), it will be found that weird old Jackson had enjoyed a pretty good run over in New Mexico. He was well-loved as a Mayor, and his eccentricities came to be embraced with enthusiasm, which slowly spread to the rest of the nation. As a result, the United States of America were very enthusiastic about space and space travel, and even managed to establish a moon base in 2556. Unfortunately, the moon base was abandoned in 2626 for lack of funding, and has been sitting empty and unused since then.

There's something else transports will discover upon returning home, though. The United Earth did invade while everyone was out, but as their Masked army found no sign of the transports, they retreated and tried a different approach. They've managed to corrupt the signals sent by the Transporter machine, and the return trip will be a little bit turbulent for our transports. The effect isn't immediate, but all transports will be left feeling a little… unsettled.

At various points throughout the next week (Jan 19th - Jan 26th), transports will find their personal timelines going haywire. It will happen at a different time for each individual, if it happens at all — one moment they're sitting down for dinner, same as usual, and in the next second they're suddenly 5 years old again. Or maybe they're 20. Or 89. Maybe they have faint memories of being here before, or maybe it's a completely new place and situation. (Note: this event is optional. If you'd rather your character stand by and watch everyone else age and regress, that's fine too!)

This personal timeline disturbance will last for two weeks (until Feb 1st), and the Initiative will have their hands tied until their machines are ready to activate again. It will take a second mission to begin to stabilize the machine, which will be posted about as the time draws closer to it.

A note on the timeline swap specifications: these ARE both mental and physical changes! They are literally going back or forward in their personal time. However, you can only pick a point in their timeline that has been shown in canon! A glimpse at a grimdark alternative future works just as well as a flashback to that time they were 8 and stubbed their toe, as long as it was shown at some point in canon. (Other official sources will be accepted as well, such as a supplemental handbook or comics accompanying a game.) For OCs, any point in their story will do, as long as you're willing to write up a brief (3-5 sentences) explanation of what we can expect to see from this version.) And to reiterate, it is not necessary to participate, it's perfectly fine to have your character be a bystander to the shenanigans. After characters have returned to normal, whether or not they remember all this is entirely up to you.

Feel free, as always, to use this post to plot with others, both for Wild West and timeline swap shenanigans! There will be a thread set up for questions about the event, and we'll be happy to answer anything you've got.

TIMELINE OF EVENTS
[Jan 11th] Rubble flies across the sky toward the UE capitol.
[Jan 12th] Transports are sent to Black Rock, New Mexico, 1884.
[Jan 19th] After a week of hanging out, the vote is cast, and Gerald "Moony" Jackson is Black Rock's new Mayor. Transports immediately return to Exsilium.
[Jan 19th-Jan 26th] Thanks to UE interference, transports will experience personal timeline disruption, to last through February 1st.
[Feb 1st] A second mission is run, to hopefully put an end to the UE interference of the Transporter. (More information will be given on this as the date approaches.)

A final note: here is an Initiative network post about the mission, which will not be replied to, here is the log for the Wild West mission, and there will not be a group log for experiencing timeline swap effects, as the effects are gradual and staggered!
