Emergency mission alert! Someone threw rocks at the United Earth capitol and alerted them to the fact that some of those people they supposedly bombed to smithereens a bit ago are still kicking. The Initiative anticipates either another strike or an outright invasion by the UE, and they aim to sweep everything under the rug that they can, as fast as they can.

This means, in short, a trip to the Wild West!

Once the transports have gathered for their mission (Jan 12th), it will be hastily explained that the Initiative needs Gerald "Moony" Jackson, a strange man who has always been obsessed with "life among the stars", to be elected as Mayor of Black Rock, New Mexico, in 1884. It will NOT be added that this is a mission they'd been holding off on until they had enough transport numbers to assuredly sway the vote, but the attack on the UE has had to move their schedule forward a lot faster. Thus, they encourage any transport with the ability to change the minds of others (with science, magic, or plain old convincing) to encourage natives to the town to elect Jackson as well.

Transports will spend 7 days (until Jan 19th) in Black Rock, and will be mostly left to their own devices in terms of food, shelter, and entertainment (although a fixed amount of money is provided to each transport), while they do what they can to convince the town to vote in crazy old Moony. The votes will be cast on the 7th day, Jackson will be elected, and half an hour afterward, all those new arrivals to Black Rock will vanish as suddenly as they'd appeared.

Upon returning home to Exsilium (Jan 19th), it will be found that weird old Jackson had enjoyed a pretty good run over in New Mexico. He was well-loved as a Mayor, and his eccentricities came to be embraced with enthusiasm, which slowly spread to the rest of the nation. As a result, the United States of America were very enthusiastic about space and space travel, and even managed to establish a moon base in 2556. Unfortunately, the moon base was abandoned in 2626 for lack of funding, and has been sitting empty and unused since then.

There's something else transports will discover upon returning home, though. The United Earth did invade while everyone was out, but as their Masked army found no sign of the transports, they retreated and tried a different approach. They've managed to corrupt the signals sent by the Transporter machine, and the return trip will be a little bit turbulent for our transports. The effect isn't immediate, but all transports will be left feeling a little… unsettled.

At various points throughout the next week (Jan 19th - Jan 26th), transports will find their personal timelines going haywire. It will happen at a different time for each individual, if it happens at all — one moment they're sitting down for dinner, same as usual, and in the next second they're suddenly 5 years old again. Or maybe they're 20. Or 89. Maybe they have faint memories of being here before, or maybe it's a completely new place and situation. (Note: this event is optional. If you'd rather your character stand by and watch everyone else age and regress, that's fine too!)

This personal timeline disturbance will last for two weeks (until Feb 1st), and the Initiative will have their hands tied until their machines are ready to activate again. It will take a second mission to begin to stabilize the machine, which will be posted about as the time draws closer to it.

A note on the timeline swap specifications: these ARE both mental and physical changes! They are literally going back or forward in their personal time. However, you can only pick a point in their timeline that has been shown in canon! A glimpse at a grimdark alternative future works just as well as a flashback to that time they were 8 and stubbed their toe, as long as it was shown at some point in canon. (Other official sources will be accepted as well, such as a supplemental handbook or comics accompanying a game.) For OCs, any point in their story will do, as long as you're willing to write up a brief (3-5 sentences) explanation of what we can expect to see from this version.) And to reiterate, it is not necessary to participate, it's perfectly fine to have your character be a bystander to the shenanigans. After characters have returned to normal, whether or not they remember all this is entirely up to you.

Feel free, as always, to use this post to plot with others, both for Wild West and timeline swap shenanigans! There will be a thread set up for questions about the event, and we'll be happy to answer anything you've got.

TIMELINE OF EVENTS
[Jan 11th] Rubble flies across the sky toward the UE capitol.
[Jan 12th] Transports are sent to Black Rock, New Mexico, 1884.
[Jan 19th] After a week of hanging out, the vote is cast, and Gerald "Moony" Jackson is Black Rock's new Mayor. Transports immediately return to Exsilium.
[Jan 19th-Jan 26th] Thanks to UE interference, transports will experience personal timeline disruption, to last through February 1st.
[Feb 1st] A second mission is run, to hopefully put an end to the UE interference of the Transporter. (More information will be given on this as the date approaches.)

A final note: here is an Initiative network post about the mission, which will not be replied to, here is the log for the Wild West mission, and there will not be a group log for experiencing timeline swap effects, as the effects are gradual and staggered!

OMG YES TIMELINE SHENANIGANS

Since sylvari don't physically age one way or the other I can't do anything with her...but oh man Ghost. Which way to go???? Bitty happy Ghost or older more confident or even fully Nether Ghost. :\a Think I'm going with Ghost about 20 years into her future.

As far as the Wild West stuff goes Ghost probably won't have a good time. She's a woman and that's already bad enough but she's also mixed. :|

Taicea's probably going to need a leash because she's probably going to get herself into trouble.

I'm throwing up Duncan and Marjolaine [personal profile] sanscoeur for plotting. He won't be interfering in Wild West politics. Grey Wardens and their policy of non-interference with governments applies for him even here. But he would explore and probably enjoy the saloons.

Marjolaine will gladly interfere just because it's fun for her to stick her fingers into things and keep polished on her manipulation skills.

On the return:

Duncan will have some timeline disruption back to canon covered in The Calling. Anybody interested in enjoying some of that confusion is welcome!

Marjolaine's canon appearances are too limited for me to bother with messing with her. That doesn't mean she won't enjoy messing with your characters. So if you want someone adding to your chaos, consider this a volunteer!

Since Eddie is my only character, I'm throwing him into the ring for this one. I'm unsure if he'll be participating in the timeline displacement, but he will definitely be going back in time to help persuade the vote. He most likely won't be staying at an inn, but instead have his own campsite rigged (heh) up.

His skills at persuasion are relatively questionable, however, so there could be some plot potential for someone with a bit more charisma to balance out his more brute force approach to things!

Any takers? Ideas? I'm all ears!

He'll try to avoid trouble but the Wild West will baffle him to no end. And timeline disruption, sign me up.

Nathaniel and Nick ([personal profile] gamblinman) are both up for grabs.

Nathaniel won't be getting much involved in the whole political part of it, but I'm up for him doing pretty much anything else.

Nick is, of course, going to be hitting up the saloons big-time for some good old Wild West poker games. He'll probably try to at least chat up some of the locals and smooth-talk them a little but won't put a lot of effort into trying to sway their votes.

Oh, right, and Nick won't do any time regression since Left 4 Dead canon is pretty vague about how long the zombie attack is going on. Nathaniel will be reverting to the very beginning of Awakening, where he's pretty much pissed off at everyone and interested in killing the Warden who murdered his father.

I would love to plot stuff for Ygritte. I am going away from the 16th to the 25th, so I think that only puts me at Wild West stuff, but TOLD YOU, ARTHUR. And he called her paranoid.

Ygritte will not like the Wild West though. ALTHOUGH SOMEONE TEACH HER HOW TO SHOOT PLEASE. :3

If Jon Snow ever shows up here, man. Boy is not going to know what to do with her.

In the Wild West he will be TRYING NOT TO GRIPE ABOUT SAND GETTING INTO HIS METAL JOINTS UGH THAT IS SERIOUSLY THE WORST

and for timeline swaps, he'll be going back to pre-cyborg days! When he was just an aristocratic asshole who gave a shit about no one and wanted to sleep with everything! So... normal, but plus staggering ego and assholery. B) anyone wanna be rudely flirted with.

Larsa Solidor and Riku are totally available for plotting!

Larsa will definitely be breaking out every single manipulative, baby-faced, persuasive move he has to help during the Wild West mission. He will need one or two adults to cling to just in case of trouble, though, and because he'll be going in unarmed to cause the least suspicion. He also will not be participating in the personal timeline disruptions, since he's never been seen in canon as being another age.

Riku, however, is the opposite. He'll try to help during the Wild West event, but it's likely he won't be very successful. During the personal timeline disruption section of the event, however... oho. He's going to be switching to his Chain of Memories version of himself, or his very tiny five-year-old self. Idk. I haven't chosen which.

Wild Wild West - Claire will be doing what she can to earn extra money no not like that, because omg she wants all the souvenirs she can possibly get. This probably means her conning people again in drinking games. But because it's the old west she might run into some serious trouble with the local menfolk. So. Uh. Yeah. She might need to be bailed out of srs trouble. :| norly.

Other than that she'll likely be trying to get a chance to ride a horse, buy some cool clothes, and generally just have a good time. She probably won't try to sway the vote either way, because she doesn't really understand how all of this works yet and doesn't really care.

Any plot ideas are welcomed and wanted!

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey - Either she'll regress to about 12, blissfully unaware of her powers and much happier but suddenly FREAKED OUT CAUSE WHO ARE YOU AND MY DAD IS GONNA KILLLL YOU.

I'm a horrible person. I might regress her to one of the most traumatizing nights of her life. (Aka: Homecoming game at Union Wells High School anyone?) Or. I might bring in scary future!Claire, which would probably be the most fun to play.

I haven't decided yet. Thoughts?

Kate Kane will be going on the mission because she hasn't been on any, needs to know how things/people work on these, and because she is here to help this war. I don't think she'll make an appearance as Batwoman this time.

When she gets back and because the plot's going to last two weeks, she'll be affected by the timeline disruption later on. I don't know what point I'll choose yet, but we can try to plot something anyway! I'm thinking either trainwreck 12 year old or trainwreck 20 something year old who just got kicked from West Point. Decisions.

She'll be just plain grossed out by the standard of living in 1884 (WOW YOU MEAN YOU DON'T SHOWER DAILY YOU DISGUST ME), and possibly ease into appreciating guns and cactuses and manly men.

And for the timeline swap, she'll be going straight to the end of canon, when she's 200 feet long, doesn't care to pretend to be a human anymore, seriously bitter, and straight up RPG Boss Fight style evil.

Wow, okay. So Jesse robbed a train in Black Rock once, so... he's right at home in this mission. Except, you know, for the century difference and whatnot. He's probably going to ignore the actual mission for the most part and focus on enjoying the desert, which he doesn't realize he misses but he does miss it. A lot. Do you want to take romantic walks with him? Or try to convince him to focus on what he's supposed to be doing? Or whatever?

Post-mission, he'll be timeline-fucked all the way back to the beginning of Season 2. So be prepared for some bad fashion and extreme stupidity and he'll have hair. Also he'll be even more of a shithead and very offensive, I apologize. He won't remember Exsilium at all.

then, guess how adorable tony's going to be. guess. what was that i said about childhood dreams? because he's got no future versions and de-aging to like, adulthood pre-iron man is just. asking to get him basically shot in the knee i used to be an asshole, like you, but then i took a bullet to the knee. I only have Reaver here, who will not be pleased at being whisked away from this new world to another new world so quickly. However, he'll like the wild west, if only because there are a lot of gun fights and he's very skilled with firearms. And he's quite fond of studying different sorts of long-ranged weaponry. He won't be doing much in terms of the actual mission though; probably just sleeping with the NPCs if he can manage it.

As far as timeline swaps go, I won't be doing anything with Reaver since this is his first event here. He absolutely loathes kids however, so he will probably remained holed up in his room once he finds out that there are children running around.

and for the timeline stuff, he's GOING BACKWARDS. back to the days when he was an acolyte with a temper who had no qualms with fistfights, and yet was stunningly terrible in them. also his heal was shitty. and his blessings and agility spells lasted for like a minute tops. DIVING IN AT THE DEEP END LMAO

This is going to be Claire's first day in exsi so he is going to need to mingle... a lot... He'll probably be really exuberant about waking up in a wild west movie. He doesn't need people to show him the ropes because he's all stupidly independent and stuff but someone might want to keep an eye on him because he'll probably acquire a horse somehow and try to be the next Buffalo Bill.

EDIT: actually, he might take his end of the deal super seriously and try to swing the vote by mafia-ish means... and he doesn't have enough money for bribes so I guess it'll have to be threats. What a shame.

OH and afterwards he'll either be a circus brat or a geriatric treasure hunter... probably the latter because come on, that's supercute.

He sucks at changing people's minds, but he's stir-crazy so he's going. Plus it's his century, even though it's the wrong continent. Guns, man, he's good with guns. Sharpe is just going to be here teaching everyone to shoot, okay? Okay. Who wants to be taught to shoot, eh?

Either he's becoming bookverse!Sharpe in Trafalgar right after he met Horatio Nelson, or he's becoming TV!Sharpe in Seringapatam right after the massacre. In any case, he's going to be younger, rifleless, and with a red coat instead of a green.

As for the Wild West, I think she'll just be having way too much fun for her own good. MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME FOR GUN SHOOTING LESSONS FOR A CERTAIN FUSSY QUEEN-- or anyone else who would like to just kick back and live it up western style for a week.

NOBODY EVEN KNOWS THIS GUY I need to fix that hi

Flynn will probably be taking a more prohibition mobster approach to swaying votes, though he can also do the gambling/drinking/schmoozing side of it to con people.

On the timeline side of things, his canon is pretty limited, so it'll mostly be variations on the douchebag scale. Since he's actually being pretty nice lately, he'll probably regress to a point where he was extremely hostile and into shooting first and not bothering with questions.

And for timeline, he's going to become a lot younger and a lot louder and a lot less broody mcvampire and much more mcshootemallup.

Takegami will go out and try to charm all the people but since he is obviously not white, he may just end up having some problems. But since he is a good entertainer, he might end up doing a few things at a couple saloons.

Meanwhile, he's going to satisfy a couple of his needs while in town.

Rose Lalonde is going to use her Seer powers (well, she's going to pretend to use her Seer powers) to act like a soothsayer just passing through town, and convince the more gulable types that voting the right way will win them fame and fortune! Anyone want to be her lovely assistant/bodyguard/chaperone? (Or handsome assistant as the case may be).

And once she's back, she's prooooobably going to have a nice grimdark regression because come ON that's what Rose always does when crap like this happens. Who wants to fail to understand her gobblydegook? :D

Shelke Rui looks nine, and won't have much influence on the election, but since she can turn invisible, she'll snoop around and help other people figure out what they can learn about people they can influence.

I'm thinking older Shelke for this, when she returned home, either still looking nine, or after some cure is found for her mako problems.

Ophelia thinks this whole thing is stupid, but she'll go vote and probably get in some bar fights. Who doesn't love barfights?

And when they come back, she's going to...well, I'm sort of torn. Her own personal timeline is rather short and abrupt, but technically she could probably become normal Ophelia. That would at least be a brain fuck for poor Eddie.

Tossing Snow here and Sayaka/[personal profile] fortissimos up for plotting! Snow will be getting WAY too into wild west things (down to the hat and clothes, even if the watch things make it unnecessary), while Sayaka will be... doing something. I am open to ideas for her.

Both of them will definitely be getting involved in timeline things. Sayaka will probably be going back to when things were cute and fun (or... maybe getting a brief glimpse of her future haha oops), while Snow will move up to some point during XIII-2. These are tentative though, I need to think about it.
