PLAYER PLOT:

CIVIL WARS ARE HOW YOU GET THINGS DONE

At approximately 3:00AM on November 16th, a group of Transports led by Charlie Cutter [personal profile] alittlesweptup and Chloe Frazer [personal profile] totallytrustworthy will sabotage key systems of the moon base and take possession of the Transporter room in order to wrestle away what little control remains in the Initiative’s hands and put it in the collective hands of the transports.

Over the course of the next four days, the mutiny will serve to spark a community wide conflict that affects the base as a whole. Lines will be drawn in the sand. Relationships will be forged and broken - do you side with the mutineers and help them from them outside? Do you support regaining the transport room and helping the Initiative take back control of the base? Do you choose to remain neutral? This is the place where everyone gets to pick sides, to wage small wars with or against people you understood to be your friends, your family. That inter-community conflict is the main focus of the event; taking the transport room only serves to light that spark.

In order to deal with the mutiny itself - but not necessarily to resolve the wider social conflict that occur as a result -, randomly selected teams of characters will work together to get the base’s systems back online and to eventually retake the Transport room from the mutineers.




EVENT CALENDAR
There are three main elements in this plot. All three run concurrently from November 16th to November 19th. All the relevant logs will go up at the same time; back-dating and forward-dating is encouraged.

COMMUNITY WIDE EFFECTS (Nov. 16th - 19th (and beyond?))
While randomly selected teams will be the ones to actually deal with the mutineers themselves, characters are encouraged to engage with the distractions and network with fellow players in order to enable or deter those teams from fulfilling their goals. Are you supporting the mutineers and trying to sabotage any attempts to retake the Transporter room from the outside? Are you trying to help the teams reach their goals so they can fix the base’s systems and re-take the Transporter room? How this plays out, not to mention the future of Initiative - Transport relations, depends heavily on what choices the community makes during this conflict.

Given the scale of this event, it’s important to note that there are minor and major conflicts available to anyone willing to participate regardless of whether or not they sign up for specific tasks. Player characters can defect at any time, they can choose to sabotage or support one another in the chaos. They can struggle with the system malfunctions or assist any others also suffering through them. We also absolutely want to encourage everyone in game to examine their current CR and consider alignment and/or how it might affect them on an IC level. Even characters maintaining neutrality are vital for keeping the peace, preventing escalation and even (in more extreme cases) injury or death. You do not have to sign up to prove vital to the cause on either side.

DISTRACTIONS (Nov. 16-19th)
Small teams of mutineers will be taking down key systems of the moon base from outside the transporter room in an attempt to both cover the initial takeover of the Transporter room and to create blocks to keep the room from being liberated. Key systems on lockdown are: main lighting (meaning there will be emergency lighting only), door systems (meaning at first player characters will only be able to access housing, the cafeteria and restrooms until this lockdown is overridden), gravity control and the network (meaning no use of network functions until it’s restored).

There will also be a program piggybacked on the AI to monitor its actions in case Transports try to use it against the mutineers. While the mutineers won’t be able to stop the AI from doing anything, they’ll at least be aware of its processes.

Randomly selected teams will have to deal with these distractions and get some or all of these systems back online before anyone can reach and re-take the Transporter room.

TRANSPORTER ROOM (Nov. 19th)
A small team of mutineers (led by Charlie and Chloe) will be taking the Transporter room proper and barricading themselves inside until ousted either by diplomatic or forcible means. Further, members of the mutiny will be holding positions in the Observatory to keep lookout for Transports meaning to reach and re-take the Transporter room at bay.

A randomly selected team will eventually get past the Observatory and into the Transporter room. The characters will be tasked with either negotiating or apprehending (or worse) the mutineers holding the Transporter room. Note that some or all of the distractions will have to be dealt with before any team can get this far.


TEAM SIGN-UPS
In an effort to keep everything fair, the characters who DO end up dealing with the mutineers themselves (as opposed to engaging with the technical and social difficulties that arise as a result) will be randomly selected. To put your character’s name in the hat, please comment to the appropriate thread below. We’ll randomize final team selections on Sunday, Nov. 10th at 5:00pm PST. When signing up for team selection, please be aware that mutineers are armed. While many won’t attack your character on sight, their first priority is to hold the Transport room until their goals are reached. If the team you’re on chooses more violent means to deal with their assigned problem, it could very well beget more violence. Depending on how you handle the circumstances, your actions could be fatal for yourself or others. On that note, your character does NOT have to be a fighter to prove valuable to these teams; thinkers, tech specialists and diplomats are just as valuable as someone who can swing a sword or throw a spell.

Furthermore, while we want to make sure everyone can be involved in this player plot, please be aware that having your character on a team will require you be around to play and be as active as possible as it’s vital that conflict resolution happen in a timely manner. If circumstances change that make you unable to participate as fully as you’d like, please notify us so we can cycle someone else into your slot.

THE MUTINEERS
Currently the group led by Charlie and Chloe consist of about eight other player characters. It’s a rag tag group made up of people largely dissatisfied with the Initiative from the get go, who are unhappy with the current state of affairs on the moon. While we need to keep numbers limited for the sake of both IC discretion and OOC wrangling, if you want to join the mutineers prior to the plot’s start, you can toss your name into the hat for that as well. Slots will be limited and you must be willing to backdate a quick log to establish pre-existing CR. Because backdating CR is necessary, the time limit for signing up for these slots is shorter than everything else (so we can get those logs out of the way before the rest of the event kicks off). Slots will be randomized for mutineer positions on Wednesday, Nov. 6th at 5:00pm PST.

Not all mutineers will be present for the final conflict. Some focused teams with be disseminated throughout the base from the beginning of the event to serve as distractions (as taking the base’s systems offline largely can’t be done from inside the transporter room).

Please note that it’s not necessary to be a part of the original group to choose to affiliate with the mutineers. If you character wishes to sabotage Transports that are working against the mutiny from the outside to support the movement, you are absolutely free and highly encouraged to do so!

AFTERMATH
How this player plot ends is defined by the actions the community takes. Is the resolution a peaceful one? Is it one colored by violence? What sorts of dividing lines are drawn, how relationships are repaired, how amends are made and what’s ultimately done with the mutineers is entirely up to the community at large. Actions, big or small, have consequences. Whether you’re part of an established team or participating in the base-wide conflicts, your character’s actions determine both the outcome of this immediate conflict and the shape of things to come. So be careful and thoughtful; keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

OPT-OUT
Don’t want to be involved in either side of a space mutiny? On hiatus and can’t participate? You can either have your character stay in the housing unit of the base, or you can send them on a mission prior to the mutiny! Please note that any characters away on a mission will not be able to return until the transporter room is retaken.

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that the motivations here for the mutiny aren't all that specific, which was an oversight on our part. Chloe and Charlie want the transports to have more of a presence in regards to the way decisions are made in Exsilium. They want more equal footing and less restriction, and the only time to really strike with a mutiny is while the Initiative is weak; taking transports to a base riddled with infection and a lack of resources was the last straw - the transports deserve control.

Furthermore, we want to stress that while this isn't the most diplomatic method the mutineers could've taken to accomplish these goals, the want to avoid causing as much bodily harm as is possible. Their goals are not to harm the transport OR initiative population on the moon base, but rather to forcibly facilitate a reorganization of the leadership in the base. They will be as peaceful as they can while still trying to accomplish their goals and safeguard their bargaining position and will only resort to violence if that's something the transport community escalates first.

Collette will be able to morph into forms that can navigate the airducts to gather information on the mutineers. I don't plan to sign her up for the final confrontation, but this sort of information can be useful to whoever ends up on the final team, along with her ability to stop time at large and still allow a handful of people to be active despite the time stop, for as long as she can hold it (at max, five minutes).

Likely if the police force is having a reaction, she'll be working with them. Other than that, close friends or others she's worked with before, she'll look to you!

She'll be a hard line for a non-violent resolution as can be managed, with a no-kill policy. There is a need for recognizeable order and a code of conduct that she can see and agree with, but responding with blind violence or going in blind are two things she can't condone. (This is also why she won't fight -- the way she fights lends toward mauling or death, not incapacitation.)

Mostly will be case by case: she won't think what they're doing is the right way, if as I say above, she agrees there needs to be a consistent presentation of order and means of communicating, though she thinks Saul and the different organized groups are already helping that along now. Also would be in favor of a code of conduct, particularly one that demands no killing each other -- and no wanton death visited on anyone with an exception of self-defense or during actual times of battle.

no but Roslyn will probably be calling in literally everyone who has ever volunteered to assist or is one of her officers and will be expecting them to help maintain order. she'll also be trying to coordinate with anyone and everyone attempting to take the transporter back and offer them the assistance of her force. So yeah if your character has at any point contacted her about either joining the force or being a consultant, they will get a message from her (I will try to do this IC as well but if I don't have time for it IT STILL HAPPENED)! It is obviously completely up to you whether or not your character chooses to respond to that, but a lack of response from any of her actual officers without a good reason could potentially have repercussions.

and god help any of her officers who help the mutineers

Jesse Pinkman is super loyal to the Initiative. If you're against them, he's against you. But he loathes violence and would rather avoid it, so he's going to be disarming people. As in, taking powers away from mutineers. You can read more about how this works here. At the end of the plot, when he's satisfied that fighting won't immediately resume, he'll return those powers to their rightful owners.

Please let me know if you want Jesse to peacefully disarm your character! (Your character may not even notice he's done it until he's already gone.)

Also let me know if you want a chance to get back at Jesse or take him down! Bullets usually do the trick just fine, though it's about time for him to evolve, so I might have something special in mind, depending. Anyway, we can plot a thing.

Though he'd be against this even if it didn't, so! Caesar finds the mutiny a big waste of everyone's time and is willing to lend a hand with planning and/or helping with how the response to it is going to go. Ultimately he'd say talking it out peacefully is always the best option, but he's also fine with inevitably telling someone big and scary to go in there and break some arms, etc.

He won't be signed up or come into direct conflict or anything like that due to being a stick who cannot fight good ok (unless someone wants to come after him for some reason, then sure, why not).

Also probably going to suggest throwing together a brig to keep the mutineers or, at the very least, the ringleaders, depending on the outcome.

Brig idea is perfect, since they'll need to have those who decided to do this sit it out and be dealt with. Collette's also on the "um no" to mutineers, and will be involved with information gathering and an attempt at hostage extraction (failure or success to be determined). Not sure if you want to do anything with that, or have her assist in feeding information or in Caesar getting to use Jean to help with networking and communication -- telepathic orders are harder to intercept, so to speak!

bbs not impressed with the initiative so far but he also thinks that staging a mutiny WHILE ON THE FUCKING MOON WHEN THEY GOT JUST INVADED BY ZOMBIES is a really, really bad idea. not even mentioning that he's so not impressed with the general lack of order/structure/command chain/discipline, so yeah, he will be quietly grumping somewhere and (possibly) try to shut the mutiny down when it comes to it in the interest of everyone else who's possibly suffering because of it.

doesn't necessarily mean he's anti-mutiny and pro-intiative, he really just thinks this is bad timing & execution all around.

Cross will be the neutral party in this plot. He doesn't care for the Initiative or UE much, but a mutiny, on the moon? When there's only like, what, a dozen Initiative personnel to overpower?



He's so not impressed. He will interfere if someone from either side tries to use another neutral person as a bargaining chip in any way, but otherwise he's sitting on the sidelines drinking from his stash, and depending on who you are and what side you're on, he may or may not welcome you to it.

Gold is pretty anti-Initiative in the sense that they are kidnapping dbags. HOWEVER, he is aware he doesn't have all the information yet and even by then, he won't have as much as he'd need to really pick a side. Since either outcome benefits him- he doesn't stand to lose anything if the pro-Initiative team wins out and if the mutineers win, he might get to get his ass back to his mission faster (in theory)- he'll happily aide both sides wherever he can. Just be prepared to owe him for it.

Kouichi will most likely try to hear what everyone has to say, esp the mutineers. He hasn't been here long enough to really come to a conclusion about the Initiative, but it's true that the zombies have kind of tipped the scale into "why are there zombies in the base why wasn't this handled earlier WE'RE ON THE MOON FOR GOD'S SAKES INITIATIVE" but at the same time... he's not... 100% sure that the transports themselves can handle making big decisions. it's really nice of him to think that way he knows.

He's for peace foremost though since no one can be revived from the dead (besides the immortals), so chalk him up to the 'let's not kill each other please'. Won't be taking an active physical part in either though, unless someone wants to beat up a fourteen year old... It really depends on the ic arguments/conversation that takes place so I'll tagging around with him during the event!

Wow, this is jump in the deep end and start swimming and it's fantastic!

The Doctor is still going to be putting the pieces together so I won't say that he's pro Initiative or Mutineers. However he is pro gravity so I've signed him up for possibly helping out in that corner.

Otherwise, he would be most interested in hearing both sides and would like to see a conclusion that did not involve people being killed on either side.

Carol will be hanging out in her room because she's had enough between the zombies and the rescue mission stuff. At most she'll be trying to keep tabs on what's going on, and offering to patch people up the best she can. As far as anti-mutiny and mutiny stuff goes, she's on the "we just got attacked by zombies, I don't think wrecking the place is a very good idea" side.

Luke's already been roped into this and he's jumping in mainly because he's frustrated and he's not sure the Initiative are the best people to be running everything. He's a good guy at heart (super good, really) and he's going to insist on no killing of hostages or anything that drastic. He could probably be talked down, actually, but he's also a young hothead, so you takes your chances.

Ashraf will be all about picking a side!!!! Once he knows which side he wants. He'll be paying very close attention to arguments on both sides in an attempt to figure out who is really in the right here. Does the Initiative actually know what they're doing? Should Transports be in the ones in control of this operation instead? Basically, the system of authority in place is only good if it's the best idea around, and he'll be looking to be convinced one way or another.

A super helpful comment, I know. :'| But basically I HOPE THERE ARE A BILLION IC DEBATES (get that network up fast dudes!! or else everyone can sit around in the cafeteria and talk it out like they did in the old days.)

MERRILL will remain neutral until someone does something too stupid to ignore and it gets in her way, or Hawke makes a decision. It's usually a case of WWHD where civil war and mutinies are concerned. /THUMBS UP EVERYONE SUCKS

ANNE isn't thrilled with anyone in all of this mess, but she'll be incredibly upset over an armed mutiny when she has a 10-year-old exile in her care. In public she may try to appear as neutral as possible because she doesn't know who will win, but more than likely she'll be pissed at anyone she knows well joining the mutiny, especially if/when hostages become a thing.

As she feels Jesse in his own way is the most powerful person on the moonbase, with Saul's influence following, Anne will side with them before it's all over and done with.

Yuri's hated the initiative from the get go and has wanted to do something like this, but hasn't due to the fact it'd affect too many other people. But now that something's up he'll gladly help. Will he team up with anyone? Hell to the no. But he'll gladly assist and make paths for anyone who may need it. But at the end of the day as long as it's in the best interest of the transports, he'll be all for this.

Sokka only just got back and goddamn, does he want to go home. As far as he concerned this isn't his war, he's done with his and he wants his peace and quiet. He'd love to help and he's a good kid, really, but getting kidnapped into something he wanted no part of has earned the Initiative a bit of his ire.

Zelos/Kaneis seriously hates everyone. Sure, he still hates the Initiative for bringing him back from the dead without consent, bringing his sister into the war, forcing him to fight in a war, etc etc. He has a lot of animosity and dislike the the Initiative!

Buuut on the other hand? Transports were the ones who gave him zombiefied pets, got him kidnapped and shipped off to United Earth labs, and generally react to anything bad that happens by claiming nothing at all was their faults (which he strongly disagrees)! He's also very used to nobles/cults/extremists/renegades/etc trying to cause mutinies or civil wars back home and- well that makes him very unsympathetic to them since they tend to be...just as bad or worse than the people they are trying to overthrow! So yeah. It's very unlikely he'll pick a side.

However he'll still be working in the clinic and unless it's someone who has been harming innocents during this whole mutiny thing- he'll treat people regardless of sides. People who do harm innocent people...uh, I'll take by case by case scenario.
