Epidemic Exsilium: Stage Two

With AI's announcement going up on the network, so begins Stage Two of the Epidemic plot.

On Sunday, the first confirmed cases of healthy individuals coming down ill will start arriving at the hospital. This means people in their teens, twenties, and thirties! Rooms which were previously private are now being reorganized to hold two or three patients, usually grouped by time of arrival or severity.

For those already hospitalized, now you have the option of roommates! For those going in to the hospital, you too have the option of roommates, PC or NPC. (PCs are probably much more fun!)

Throughout this week, the numbers of seriously ill will become astronomical. There will be immense strains on supplies and staff healthy enough to try and take care of those who are suffering most significantly

And now...

For the Sleeper Agents!

42 shipments were sent in to Exsilium, and there are at least 37 different names associated with where those shipments went. For all who signed up to track down sleeper agents here, a list of things in common for those sleeper agents:

  • They are all mostly men. About 11 of the suspected sleeper agents are women. Of those, two work at the orphanage. Three at the hospital. Several of the men work at the hospital, the majority work elsewhere in all sorts of employment throughout the city. Both above and below the line of respectability.
  • They are all coughing, but appear to be in fine physical health. Listening to their lungs, if you're so inclined, will prove they're rattle and fluid free.
  • They all have recent needle marks on their bodies. This is related to a syrum they take as a bolster in their immune system against the virus they're spreading. It's not a cure, by may be explored as one. It prolongs the incubation period of the virus. In essence, using this syrum causes them to stay largely healthy for much longer.
  • Somewhere on them, or in their lodgings, or at their place of work, there is at least one cache of United Earth drug verstatsi. Discovering this takes more sluething than anything else. All discoveries of verstatsi may be turned over to the Initiative, or kept by the finders.
  • They all have a case of the virus likewise stored where they live, work, or kept with them. The Initiative is asking for all cases of the virus to be brought to their labs, regardless of being empty or full.
  • Last but not least, each sleeper agent will have a tattoo about the size of a penny located behind their left ear. This tattoo is of something recognizable to some, but does not at this time seem to indicate anything of greater importance.

Sleeper agents may be convinced to give up their information peaceably, after being beaten, after torture, after seduction, or after being afflicted with magic, drugs, or anything else a Transport has at their disposal to use for extracting information. Each agent will be difficult to crack, but that level of difficulty is up to player choice. Transports will need to apply themselves to the utmost of their abilities to get the information they need!

It is possible for a player to decide that the sleeper agent their character (or a group of characters) has caught up with will kill themselves before giving up information. All such reactions are left up to individual player discretion.

The same for any sleeper agent's name. We leave that to you!

Do we go at these sleeper agents alone?

Players are invited to decide if their characters will pursue an agent on their own, or if they'll team up to work toward the goal of taking these agents down.

Start looking around for groups in the comments here! It's more fun to torture track down together... right?

What can we learn from the sleeper agents?

Once you have decided if your character is going to tackle a sleeper agent alone, or with a group, please comment to the thread below in order to be PM'd a line or four as to what specifically your character or group will find out from their agent. All information is asked to be reported back to the Initiative, but how much any individual or group shares with their fellow Transports is left up to their own judgment.

As a warning, this information is not guaranteed to be correct or terribly important. Keep this in mind!

As of now, anyone who signed up to find a sleeper agent may find any of the information or items listed above in this post. As the sign-ups for the extra bonus information and scenarios have closed, those will no longer be available. They are still able to hunt down sleeper agents. They just don't get bonus info in doing so!

Is it too late to sign up?

No! Not yet. Sign-ups close on Tuesday, June 11th. Sign ups are now closed! By the end of the week, the fruits of everyone's labors will have produced results and started the mission into the past. There will be another post for that!

Will there be a log for any of this?

Yes! You can find the log for both hospital shenanigans and sleeper agent hunts here!

Any further questions?

Please ask in the question thread below!

Yes, though I'll start off by saying -- who is she most likely to want to contact?

On an investigation side, if she wants to have contacted the Chief of the Constables, our NPC Chief of Police, she could have been given the nod and told to do whatever it is she wants as long as it keeps out of the way of the natives. (There is a wing of the policing force open exclusively to Transports, who report back to the Chief with updates and to coordinate forces.) On an Initiative side, medically speaking, she can contact doctors or nurses in the Initiative Hospital, or medical researchers in their labs. Both have different priorities, but would be appreciative of her help however she wishes to offer it.

There's also the Native Hospital, better staffed, but also suffering greater numbers of affected people coming in for treatment.

On a PC side, it also depends what she feels like doing! Off the top of my head, I think Jade Curtis was throwing himself out there for research purposes, if that hits a medical curiosity nerve, and if she wants to help the PC clinic then there's a number of people to contact: Ashraf is one, and the rest are listed on the clinic's page. (If you'd like that, I can hunt it down for you in a moment!)

Does this help answer your question?

It does that and more! Thank you for answering that for me! I figure that 12+ years of medical school in her wouldn't just let this go by without helping. A more hands on approach would probably be best for her this time around. If it's not too much of a bother, would you be able to link me that clinic page?

Thank you! :)
