are you tired of modpost yet

Emergency mission alert! Someone threw rocks at the United Earth capitol and alerted them to the fact that some of those people they supposedly bombed to smithereens a bit ago are still kicking. The Initiative anticipates either another strike or an outright invasion by the UE, and they aim to sweep everything under the rug that they can, as fast as they can.

This means, in short, a trip to the Wild West!

Once the transports have gathered for their mission (Jan 12th), it will be hastily explained that the Initiative needs Gerald "Moony" Jackson, a strange man who has always been obsessed with "life among the stars", to be elected as Mayor of Black Rock, New Mexico, in 1884. It will NOT be added that this is a mission they'd been holding off on until they had enough transport numbers to assuredly sway the vote, but the attack on the UE has had to move their schedule forward a lot faster. Thus, they encourage any transport with the ability to change the minds of others (with science, magic, or plain old convincing) to encourage natives to the town to elect Jackson as well.

Transports will spend 7 days (until Jan 19th) in Black Rock, and will be mostly left to their own devices in terms of food, shelter, and entertainment (although a fixed amount of money is provided to each transport), while they do what they can to convince the town to vote in crazy old Moony. The votes will be cast on the 7th day, Jackson will be elected, and half an hour afterward, all those new arrivals to Black Rock will vanish as suddenly as they'd appeared.

Upon returning home to Exsilium (Jan 19th), it will be found that weird old Jackson had enjoyed a pretty good run over in New Mexico. He was well-loved as a Mayor, and his eccentricities came to be embraced with enthusiasm, which slowly spread to the rest of the nation. As a result, the United States of America were very enthusiastic about space and space travel, and even managed to establish a moon base in 2556. Unfortunately, the moon base was abandoned in 2626 for lack of funding, and has been sitting empty and unused since then.

There's something else transports will discover upon returning home, though. The United Earth did invade while everyone was out, but as their Masked army found no sign of the transports, they retreated and tried a different approach. They've managed to corrupt the signals sent by the Transporter machine, and the return trip will be a little bit turbulent for our transports. The effect isn't immediate, but all transports will be left feeling a little… unsettled.

At various points throughout the next week (Jan 19th - Jan 26th), transports will find their personal timelines going haywire. It will happen at a different time for each individual, if it happens at all — one moment they're sitting down for dinner, same as usual, and in the next second they're suddenly 5 years old again. Or maybe they're 20. Or 89. Maybe they have faint memories of being here before, or maybe it's a completely new place and situation. (Note: this event is optional. If you'd rather your character stand by and watch everyone else age and regress, that's fine too!)

This personal timeline disturbance will last for two weeks (until Feb 1st), and the Initiative will have their hands tied until their machines are ready to activate again. It will take a second mission to begin to stabilize the machine, which will be posted about as the time draws closer to it.

A note on the timeline swap specifications: these ARE both mental and physical changes! They are literally going back or forward in their personal time. However, you can only pick a point in their timeline that has been shown in canon! A glimpse at a grimdark alternative future works just as well as a flashback to that time they were 8 and stubbed their toe, as long as it was shown at some point in canon. (Other official sources will be accepted as well, such as a supplemental handbook or comics accompanying a game.) For OCs, any point in their story will do, as long as you're willing to write up a brief (3-5 sentences) explanation of what we can expect to see from this version.) And to reiterate, it is not necessary to participate, it's perfectly fine to have your character be a bystander to the shenanigans. After characters have returned to normal, whether or not they remember all this is entirely up to you.

Feel free, as always, to use this post to plot with others, both for Wild West and timeline swap shenanigans! There will be a thread set up for questions about the event, and we'll be happy to answer anything you've got.

TIMELINE OF EVENTS
[Jan 11th] Rubble flies across the sky toward the UE capitol.
[Jan 12th] Transports are sent to Black Rock, New Mexico, 1884.
[Jan 19th] After a week of hanging out, the vote is cast, and Gerald "Moony" Jackson is Black Rock's new Mayor. Transports immediately return to Exsilium.
[Jan 19th-Jan 26th] Thanks to UE interference, transports will experience personal timeline disruption, to last through February 1st.
[Feb 1st] A second mission is run, to hopefully put an end to the UE interference of the Transporter. (More information will be given on this as the date approaches.)

A final note: here is an Initiative network post about the mission, which will not be replied to, here is the log for the Wild West mission, and there will not be a group log for experiencing timeline swap effects, as the effects are gradual and staggered!

He's locked himself up for the good of everyone else. If I have him come out now I can't think of a way to justify how the events in the plot I proposed WOULDN'T happen. I realise I'm probably doing this all wrong, but I literally can't think of any other way to do it. I've kind of painted myself into a corner with this and I can't think of an outcome that WON'T be an example of me being a shitty roleplayer.

So I guess the answer is he ought to stay back but it isn't because I think my character is SEWPER SPESHUL or anything, I just... literally can't work around this at the moment.

then now it has been said, i'll check back with a repeat in two months!!!

Heh, if you're cool with that, want me to set something up? I'm writing up various WW thread-starts right now, so can do that as well! (With no actual timeframe for tagbacks, just figure to use today to get a bunch of things in motion, loosely timed to happen sometime during the WW Week. THE WWW!) And if so, a preference for action, or for prose?

i am totally cool with that, with a preference for action. i can be rotten at prose.

Yelling at them is perfectly acceptable as well. Steph will happily teach Asuka how to punch people in the face despite being fifteen and scrawny (it was a problem she had once).

Oooo yeah let's have Sho and Frodo meet. Any idea how?

[personal profile] thelastking 2013-01-12 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That he does! I swear that movie was mildly hilarious cause Aragorn was not only capable of charming nearly everyone on the cast, but including the horses as well. Brego even kissed him! lol

A little Frodo Baggins? Oh, god! Yes yes yes yes! I would love to have a little Frodo menacing Aragorn for a while. It would be like that movie Adventures in Babysitting, except Lord of the Rings-style.

[personal profile] whatsupcroc 2013-01-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to see this badly I admit it. Would you enjoy any of my cast to bounce off him during that time? Collette's staying sixteen, Sakura'll be six, and Mia still twenty-four. (Colls has been warned by Balder about Loki in a bizarre keep him happy sense, she sorta feels bad for him and wary at the same time) yelloooo

controlledvariable: (Batgirl -- that doesn't look fun)

[personal profile] controlledvariable 2013-01-12 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)

steph will frysquint at kate because she looks familiar but probably won't be able to place her until she knows kate's name.

It's Viggo, how can you not be charmed by him? ;p

A younger Frodo who has also never seen a ranger before, and that makes him the most fascinating thing ever, so expect a Baggins shadowing you.

possibly borrowing your things.

Maybe they could try to look into this Moony character? I mean, you can't go telling people to vote for him if you don't know whether he means well or not.

I'm really up for anything though, that was the first thing off the top of my head.

[personal profile] gamora 2013-01-12 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
GAMORA;
Black Rock; As this is not a mission where killing people is generally acceptable, Gamora will be hanging out in saloons and enjoying a number of bar fights and complaining about the lack of encouraged violence. She'll be sure to rough people up who might be trying to harass voters to vote against that strange Moony fellow.
Timeswap; She will be five years old! Which means she's tragic/adorable and 99% less likely to break anyone in half. Once she gets used to the fact that Thanos isn't going to come in and snatch her up again, she'll probably cautiously wander around because she's never been allowed on a planet unsupervised before. She's going to be coming in from her original timeline where she's being trained to murder the leader of a space church and avenge the genocide of her people before it even happens. So basically I want all your CR during this time so Gamora can not talk about it when she's back to normal.

MEDUSA;
Black Rock; She'll be going about, trying to persuade others to vote the way they want them to. Pretty normal stuff, really, and she'll be far more focused on that than actually enjoying the fact she's in the Wild West. Feel free to approach her and tell her to lighten up because she won't at all.
Timeswap; Medusa will be staying the same, mostly because there's hardly anything interesting going on in her life except for a brief stint as an amnesiac villain. Which, while fun, involves a lot of minor monologues Stan Lee style and no one wants that.

That could work! Also I am thinking that Sho is going to get into a gun fight and show off this fancy automatic gun concept to a few people. Or he can be in a bar fight too because of race stuff.
