are you tired of modpost yet

Emergency mission alert! Someone threw rocks at the United Earth capitol and alerted them to the fact that some of those people they supposedly bombed to smithereens a bit ago are still kicking. The Initiative anticipates either another strike or an outright invasion by the UE, and they aim to sweep everything under the rug that they can, as fast as they can.

This means, in short, a trip to the Wild West!

Once the transports have gathered for their mission (Jan 12th), it will be hastily explained that the Initiative needs Gerald "Moony" Jackson, a strange man who has always been obsessed with "life among the stars", to be elected as Mayor of Black Rock, New Mexico, in 1884. It will NOT be added that this is a mission they'd been holding off on until they had enough transport numbers to assuredly sway the vote, but the attack on the UE has had to move their schedule forward a lot faster. Thus, they encourage any transport with the ability to change the minds of others (with science, magic, or plain old convincing) to encourage natives to the town to elect Jackson as well.

Transports will spend 7 days (until Jan 19th) in Black Rock, and will be mostly left to their own devices in terms of food, shelter, and entertainment (although a fixed amount of money is provided to each transport), while they do what they can to convince the town to vote in crazy old Moony. The votes will be cast on the 7th day, Jackson will be elected, and half an hour afterward, all those new arrivals to Black Rock will vanish as suddenly as they'd appeared.

Upon returning home to Exsilium (Jan 19th), it will be found that weird old Jackson had enjoyed a pretty good run over in New Mexico. He was well-loved as a Mayor, and his eccentricities came to be embraced with enthusiasm, which slowly spread to the rest of the nation. As a result, the United States of America were very enthusiastic about space and space travel, and even managed to establish a moon base in 2556. Unfortunately, the moon base was abandoned in 2626 for lack of funding, and has been sitting empty and unused since then.

There's something else transports will discover upon returning home, though. The United Earth did invade while everyone was out, but as their Masked army found no sign of the transports, they retreated and tried a different approach. They've managed to corrupt the signals sent by the Transporter machine, and the return trip will be a little bit turbulent for our transports. The effect isn't immediate, but all transports will be left feeling a little… unsettled.

At various points throughout the next week (Jan 19th - Jan 26th), transports will find their personal timelines going haywire. It will happen at a different time for each individual, if it happens at all — one moment they're sitting down for dinner, same as usual, and in the next second they're suddenly 5 years old again. Or maybe they're 20. Or 89. Maybe they have faint memories of being here before, or maybe it's a completely new place and situation. (Note: this event is optional. If you'd rather your character stand by and watch everyone else age and regress, that's fine too!)

This personal timeline disturbance will last for two weeks (until Feb 1st), and the Initiative will have their hands tied until their machines are ready to activate again. It will take a second mission to begin to stabilize the machine, which will be posted about as the time draws closer to it.

A note on the timeline swap specifications: these ARE both mental and physical changes! They are literally going back or forward in their personal time. However, you can only pick a point in their timeline that has been shown in canon! A glimpse at a grimdark alternative future works just as well as a flashback to that time they were 8 and stubbed their toe, as long as it was shown at some point in canon. (Other official sources will be accepted as well, such as a supplemental handbook or comics accompanying a game.) For OCs, any point in their story will do, as long as you're willing to write up a brief (3-5 sentences) explanation of what we can expect to see from this version.) And to reiterate, it is not necessary to participate, it's perfectly fine to have your character be a bystander to the shenanigans. After characters have returned to normal, whether or not they remember all this is entirely up to you.

Feel free, as always, to use this post to plot with others, both for Wild West and timeline swap shenanigans! There will be a thread set up for questions about the event, and we'll be happy to answer anything you've got.

TIMELINE OF EVENTS
[Jan 11th] Rubble flies across the sky toward the UE capitol.
[Jan 12th] Transports are sent to Black Rock, New Mexico, 1884.
[Jan 19th] After a week of hanging out, the vote is cast, and Gerald "Moony" Jackson is Black Rock's new Mayor. Transports immediately return to Exsilium.
[Jan 19th-Jan 26th] Thanks to UE interference, transports will experience personal timeline disruption, to last through February 1st.
[Feb 1st] A second mission is run, to hopefully put an end to the UE interference of the Transporter. (More information will be given on this as the date approaches.)

A final note: here is an Initiative network post about the mission, which will not be replied to, here is the log for the Wild West mission, and there will not be a group log for experiencing timeline swap effects, as the effects are gradual and staggered!

Eventually Shu will be aged up a few years to at least 20. This happens for him post canon. Also guilty crown spoilers but here is more detail as to what's up: So Shu will be losing his right arm and go blind for the timeline thing. Sob.

Idk about the wild west yet I'm open for plotting but I do want to get involved somehow. PLOT WITH ME YEAH

Young sharpe needs to meet young Priad. Mostly because young priad is like 14 and incredibly naive.

So Kuroh here probably won't get involved on the 'convince citizens to vote' side of things. He doesn't serve the Initiative, he doesn't serve the American government, etc. etc. and he'd find using powers/violence to change someone's mind about such an important matter pretty shady.

HOWEVER if he sees any young lady OR gentleman in need of help/an escort/rescuing (because hey, the Wild West is dangerous okay!) he would definitely try to oblige.

He may need help himself learning to ride a horse (because there are no helicopters or motorcycles or speedboats here and I've no idea if he can already :c ), shoot a gun, or blend in with American culture of any kind, never mind 19th Century America. Somebody teach him to be Western! \o/

And I'll probably have him be unaffected by the timeline shenanigans. I have few options for him and there's not much there for the options I do have.

Bonus points if Kaneis can get Aragorn in a cowboy hat like the main character from Hidalgo!

Good grief! Aragorn is having a little bit of a rage attack knowing that everyone has been drafted for this mission. He originally planned to keep the halflings out of danger, but whoops?

In any case, expect to see Aragorn dressed up in cowboy gear and trying to protect Sam and the rest of the little guys.

Additional question. What about those who aren't human/don't appear human? Are they made to be human on this/appear human?

Katniss

[personal profile] accidentalrebellion 2013-01-12 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
okay now there will be actual information in this comment

Black Rock; Katniss... well. Let's be real, she does not give one actual fuck about the mission. (Also, she's still determined to do everything in her power not to help the Initiative, so there's that too.) She will, however, be more than happy to be back out in some kind of wilderness, and will find plenty of ways to entertain herself. Wandering, hunting, etc. and so on and so forth.

So I'm totally open for any and all shenanigans! If you want free food, this might be your girl c:

Timeline Disruption; I'm still undecided on this. I've got a couple of options I'm kicking around in my head, but I'll be back with a more definitive answer later.

i am cool with this!! do you want to toss something up or should i, i do not mind which

Aragorn

[personal profile] thelastking 2013-01-12 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ladies and gentlemen, shall we find some much needed cowboy gear for this Strider in this event? I swear this is the perfect excuse to have Aragorn look nearly exactly like Frank Hopkins in the movie Hidalgo. Except I doubt Frank ever owned a fancy sword, and spoke Elvish like a pro.

However, both seem to have a strange way with horses. I'm certain that Aragorn will charm a horse somewhere during this event. Too bad he won't be able to keep it cause honestly Aragorn needs another Brego.

All silliness aside, WHAT THE HELL INITIATIVE!? Aragorn had hoped that they would send a smaller force to this mission, but lmao NO! He's already scrambling about trying to find the rest of his company a.k.a the hobbits, Galadriel, Celebrian and Elrond. They need to come up with some sort of plan as of how they can sway the votes here, and Aragorn is not above using forgeries.

Oh god yes. Gordon is going to be all over that mission, until he finds out that there's no such thing as real coffee there. (They use chikory? And CORN? What is this madness?!) Also he can't ride a horse to save his life right now. But that's all right! Those are superfluous aspects of the mission! A few little primary-school science demos here and there will convince these yokels that going to the moon ain't so impossible after all! Ah, either that or they'll think Gordon's got the devil in 'im and chase his ass out of town...

Also, speaking of primary school... Anyone want to volunteer to keep an eye on a skinny, redheaded eight-year-old with glasses that WILL take everything within reach apart and attempt to make a battle 'bot out of it?

...And probably succeed?

GAMBIT;
OLD WEST
- firstly, remy is going to decide that whatever funding they were provided is inadequate, set up shop in a saloon somewhere, and set about swindling the populace out of their money with card tricks and charm. because why the hell not.

- however, he does have pretty mild hypnotic abilities, so the point of that and his other interactions with the ye old populace will be to turn their thoughts in the direction of the would-be mayor.

- i also have this dream of remy stealing something from every mission they go on, so at some point, probably later in the week, he'll try and make off with something nice and expensive. if anyone wants to run into him as he's doing this or even catch him at it, that's cool.

TIME STUFF
- i have a lot of options here so i'm not 100% decided, but i think i'm going to push remy back about twelve years. he was an adorable young man. also his moral compass was non-existant and his powers were babby powers he didn't quite know what to do with yet.

CRYSTAL;
OLD WEST
- she's going to find the old west absolutely fascinating, and so the majority of her time will be spent genuinely talking to the people. she'll keep the mission parameters in mind and try and bring up moony as much as possible, and this'll probably work out pretty well since she's a naturally persuasive person.

- however, she's also going to want to explore the natural area outside the town itself, and will probably wander off to go look at the wilderness or some point or another. people should go with or something and make a dangerous picnic of it.

- she also really isn't the type to leave anyone to their own devices, so if you happen to be doing anything remotely interesting she will ask a lot of questions.

TIME STUFF
- she's either going to be unaffected, and therefore spend more time worrying about other people than herself, or she'll go back to being a teenager who'd just come to earth for the first time and was basically living out ariel's life from the little mermaid. we'll see what i end up deciding but i'm leaning towards the former, maybe.

will possibly help get out the vote. Otherwise, he'll just be hanging out in the Wild West, playing poker and wearing string ties to his heart's content. I AM OPEN TO PLOTTING.

As far as timeline shenanigans go, I can't decide exactly... canon's fortunately covered pretty much his entire life from age 5ish onward, so I've got plenty to work with. I think his 6 year old self might have to make an appearance (before he started going by "Allen"; he was a bit different back then), and possibly his current canon self. I'm not sure yet.

Lloyd Plotting!

[personal profile] boredallready 2013-01-12 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I go to bed early and plotting happens fff...

So, during the Wild West, Lloyd will mostly be wandering around and checking stuff out. Y'know, asking people what Old Mexico was like, buying a hat which he'll only wear for an hour before he gets too hot and sick of it, trying all the weird food, and totally forgetting to vote if a 17 year old even could.

As for Timeline shenanigans... who wants to deal with the cutest thing ever?! =D And by that I mean three-year-old Lloyd before Kvar totally screwed up his family forever.

Though fair warning to Yosuke and Ophelia, you'll probably be dealing with a sobbing three-year-old who would definitely not be able to figure out the tablets, so would either/both of you mind a joint post? XD

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-01-12 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
During the Wild West portion, Kanaya will be Doing Her Part! She will do some old-fashioned convincing in her own boring earnest uninteresting way, but probably make the most progress when she will obtain herself an apprenticeship as a seamstress and become modestly well-liked by the patrons there.

If any characteur she knows comes up with a more elaborate scheme that could use assistance of any kind, she'll be eager to help!!

As for timelines, her personal timeline is pretty straight up "get stabbed and turn into a ghost and stay a young teen 5ever" so she's not going into the future. I could change my mind and send her into the past later, where she will be an adorable six-and-a-half-year-old, or just at the start of her canon, but both options involve losing her rainbow drinker nature and that's no fun because she'll have to hide it in the West anyway. Yes, for five days you might see Gamzee without a billion bitemarks. On his neck. So that's a long way of saying "p much def sitting out".
