Mission: Hit the Beach is so on guys

With AI’s announcement of the space shuttle’s completion, those PCs who’ve been working to get it back online since the crash in May have finally had their hard work pay off. As a consequence, the space shuttle is ready for its first flight outside of simulations, and the PCs are invited to be the ones taking it up past the Exosphere.

That’s right! It’s our first collective taste of space!

There’s room for 20 people on the unloaded space shuttle, with sitting room for around 12. (There are stand-up strap-in supports for people to buckle themselves into during takeoff, to help assist with the g-force pressure they experience.) If you’re interested in one of your PCs joining the maiden flight, please comment in the thread below. First dibs go to everyone with characters who were actively working on the shuttle since May onward (as it’s only logical)! With further interest, we’ll run a Random Number Generator early tomorrow morning for the final list of participants.

But this isn’t the best news. It’s just the beginning! Soon after the AI makes this announcement, the Transport/Initiative liaison will be announcing that the successful space flight opens up the possibility of reclaiming the long abandoned moon base, established back in the 2200s, due to the success of the mission to Black Rock to elect “Moony” as Mayor. The Initiative will need the right supplies, however, and so the Transports will be sent on a mission... to the late Cretaceous Times!

The mission will run from the 18th of July to the 24th of July!

The objective is to gather as much volcanic rock, as many iron deposits, and as much limestone and clay as they can. The Transports will be sent to a beachside wilderness with a few guarantees: a force-field dome similar to the one used back in November to keep Vanadi’s French Masquerade safe from accidental intrusion will keep the majority of curious dinosaurs out; ample supplies; ample alcohol; and for those desiring as much, bathing suits. Why? Because sure, it’s a gathering mission, but it’s also a week off to relax!

Trust them, they need it away from you as much as you need it away from everything else.

Ask any questions you have below in the Questions thread! Remember, this is a relaxation mission: so try to relax while shoving rock into burlap sacks!

I don't mean to be rude, but I wish the sign ups for this didn't have a very tiny window to join in. I didn't see the sign ups post before I went to bed last night because I was very busy that day and when I look at the comm first thing this morning the list had already been decided upon before I got a chance to even think about volunteering my character. It seems like it was kind of unfair to people who don't live in convenient timezones or have the most optimal schedules with everyone else.

I apologize that we were not able to have the information out sooner to extend the sign-up window for the test flight! It will not be the last flight for the shuttle, and M'gann has made an offer to allow characters to go up in her own ship to escort the shuttle and do what they can to ensure the project success.

I agree, this go around was not equally fair or accessible for people across the board, and do apologize for that, as it does not feel nice when it seems as if you've been shorted a possibility to include yourself and your characters in things which are of interest to you! This is not usually the case, and is not something that we should be seeing more of in the future -- such short sign up periods, or such short notice. We will make sure to do better in the future.
