Hello, my name is Jess...the second I guess? Because apparently another Jess beat me here. Oh well, that's beside the point. The point is that I'm bringing you Margulis from the not-as-popular-as-it-should-be video game series Xenosaga. Margulis is a complicated man with noble goals, but he's also harsh, ruthless to the point of seeming heartless, occasionally a bit temperamental though he tries to control it, can talk forever if you get him on certain topics and maybe enjoys a good fight a bit too much.

He's also a former priest/High Inquisitor, a former colonel and spy, a long-time swordsman/essentially mage and his last military rank was commander. He's...been many things. And he's coming from tvk, which means he's getting his powers back after several months without them. Oh, and he's also dead and not at all bothered by the topic.

He'll be rooming with Lee Chaolan and Isaac Clarke, the poor souls. And last but not least, my AIM and Plurk are both firebenderjess so feel free to add me at either/both.

Luckily, Margulis' canon point has tempered his tendency to go overboard somewhat and the closest he ever gets to outright sadistic is enjoying rubbing in his inevitabel (as far as he sees) victory. As long as Isaac doesn't instigate anything and can put up with a lot of abrasiveness, they should be fine.

I am totally okay with this! For the most part, when people he doesn't know have told him that they met him back home/in some other weird reality, he just dismisses it at lol alternate reality. But yes! The only thing I would ask is that is to keep any knowledge of future-Edgeworth's canon away from him, because he doesn't know about his murder trial, who killed his dad etc. etc. (I don't know how much Margulis knows, but Edgeworth wouldn't believe anyone who told him these things anyway :B)

However, he can totally bring up that he knows him/anything that happened in the last game though! And make note that this Edgeworth seems a bit younger....B)

And don't worry, Margulis doesn't know any details of Edgeworth's life. Histories didn't really come up much between them. (Which is probably just as well, since Margulis is technically a mass murdering war criminal...)

He's not going to be happy about the 'cannibalistic serial killer' thing. He's ruthless, but he strongly frowns on murder without a real goal behind it.

Takegami's little murders haven't been broadcasted that much. And even if someone did find out, he's crazy enough that pain and/or imprisonment doesn't bother him.

Well, that's deja vu XD Margulis used to grudgingly work with a masochistic, mass murdering psychopath. Said psychopath was only obviously responsible when he wanted people to know what he was doing.

That is Takegami for sure. He got arrested, manipulates the police to fudging his fingerprints and DNA, manipulates one of the victim's close lover and pretty much makes it so he is killing after his death. He's a fun guy :3

Margulis hates him already XD The manipulation doesn't really bother him since he's a manipulative pragmatist himself, but murder for the sake of murder is a no-no. He does consider himself a good guy, after all, even if does have a really bad case of 'the ends justify the means-itis'.

Takegami doesn't have the mental gears to judge right from wrong the way most people do. He finds most people annoying in the best of times and tends to treat those he actually likes like someone would treat a really smart pet.

Margulis knows right from wrong, he's just willing to do some pretty heinous things in the name of the greater good. His psychotic ally also knows what most people consider right or wrong, he just doesn't care because he considers himself above all that and thinks morality is just a subjective construct of society anyway.

That sounds like Takegami. He can fake it, can even seem like a nice guy with a few anger problems but he really doesn't care. He doesn't have emotions the same way other people do. It's weird but so much fun.

That last part is a bit different from the guy Margulis is used to. He does have a normal emotional range, he's just so badly damaged that he resents humanity as a whole and has convinced himself that he doesn't care about anyone. Margulis actually has some similar damage, but not nearly as bad and he isn't out of his mind like the other guy is.

Meanwhile Takegami is just a sociopath or something similar. He can mimic but he doesn't have the same range.

Pfff, Margulis is basically a disillusioned Christian. But he doesn't talk about the religious shenanigans much these days since he was burned pretty badly by his faith.

Also, all the eye rolling at the potential for small talk about women you noted in that log. Romance is stupid blah blah better things to do with your time blah blah.

LOL I figured as much about the issue with women. Lee isn't really interested in romance, he's interested in playing the field when the mood strikes him. Oh well, he'll keep that under wraps once he figures it that Margulis isn't interested in such things.

Yeah, Lee doesn't talk about religion much but politics and military things he can go on about for a while.

Margulis isn't quite as uninterested as he acts, since there is a lot of subtext between him and his rival and him and that loyal subordinate I was talking about earlier. He's just pretty much married to his work.

And don't get him started on politics. He absolutely loathes the main political force of his universe.

So does Lee but he loves the debate and expressions in a sadistic way with a twist of lemon. The way he sees it, if he can get under the skin just a little bit to start an itch, the reactions to do something about the situation is worth it.

Good or bad, Lee is a reactionary person and enjoys being in the middle of things sometimes, then he'll shove his size 13 shoe at some backsides to kick them into action.

Ohh, Margulis will definitely like that. He can't stand passive people and considers willpower, individual thought and motivation required traits to even be considered a person.

Being passive isn't something Lee likes doing. Being static causes stagnation, being too gung-ho gets a person killed. Oh, he'll follow orders, just don't expect them to be carried out in a military fashion. He'll get the job done, that's for sure, in his own way. He's pretty good about keeping it neat and clean.

And he's talking to the guy who literally chose death over stagnation when he couldn't continue along his old path but didn't see a way to a new one...

He also tries to be the serious, practical guy...but then his love of dramatics butts in and he does things like call down a lightning bolt to destroy a stone statue so he can make an impressive entrance.

Lee would have applauded! He loves dramatics if they're done right.

Haymitch is also kind of grumpy but ultimately on the side of 'good', so I'm sure they'll have ... lots to talk about ...

Margulis would also be interested in Mystique's powers because pragmatist! And one nice thing they established pretty solidly about him is that he really doesn't care if you're a mutant, a worthwhile person is a worthwhile person.

It helps that he's from a pretty heavily persecuted minority group himself. They don't even have a home planet to live on, because the Federation decided they didn't like them being autonomous, which led to a war that rendered the place uninhabitable.

Sarcasm is good, by the way. It's Margulis' best language.

Welcome! I'm Gazebo, and I play Anders from Dragon Age 2, as well as Rickon Stark from A Song of Ice and Fire. I'm not familiar with Xenosaga, but did I see you say something about this character being from a heavily persecuted minority group? Because Anders would be highly interested in this (being a mage, from a world where mages are persecuted and oppressed in various ways).

Yep! Not quite as heavily as another group in the game, but he's part of a cultural group with the power to psychically control an artifact that essentially produces unlimited energy. So naturally the rest of the universe is kind of afraid of them and does everything possible to undermine their power, including trying to remove the artifact, which they've been guarding for roughly five thousand years, from their custody and trying to rob them of their sovereignty.

This and the resentment it caused eventually led to space!Vietnam, which in turn caused the only planet they had left to call their own becoming uninhabitable, everyone losing access to that artifact and Margulis' group being reduced to space nomads at war with everyone else.
