UPCOMING PLOT: Bombs Away
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Basically, there is a spy for the United Earth inside of the Initiative's walls. He's been keeping an eye on the developments and, most notably, he's been documenting the Transports—he's made contact with the United Earth and shared with them his findings; "There's strange people here, not like us, with all manner of capabilities." Having been in the Initiative's custody, they have the fleeting chance to catch wind of his correspondence but no hope to intercept it—the United Earth knows about the Transports. They do not know why they're there, or what the Initiative is planning.
They don't know everything. They have an inkling about how they've managed to make their way into Exsilium, but it's going to take days of work. Days of attacks.
The Initiative will warn the Transports on the Network that they have been compromised in some way, and that the repercussions are unknown at this time. Then, a bomb will drop. The Initiative will react accordingly—air raid sirens everywhere, with Initiative members staffed on nearly every street corner. "We must get underground!" they're crying, shuffling Transports and citizens alike into the sewers and adjacent catacombs of the City's underground as sleek, invisible war planes drop bombs on the City and its Outlands for three straight days; they will destroy many buildings, but the Initiative Hold will be spared—after all, that's where this technology is, and that's what they want the most.
Well, that's their secondary plan. Kill the strange new mutants and vigilantes and aliens that have somehow made their way into this prison of an island is their primary goal. Find out how they're getting there is their second. There will be ground troops of heavily-armored Masked that will come into the City and surround the Hold, swarming it in search of their prize while all Transports and citizens are required to remain underground in mazes of sewers and dark, moist hallways of concrete.
Even after the bombs have ceased, the air raid sirens have silenced, and the ground troops have left the Hold, the citizens and Transports will be urged to remain underground for a remaining week. The Initiative will explain this to everyone—essentially, "we need to make the United Earth think they were successful in eliminating or culling our population". The UE will be keeping an eye on the destruction to ensure their success for a mere week, before considering the mission accomplished and turning their backs on the island again as they had before. Surely any survivors will be left subdued, won't they? Surely.
After a week, the Initiative will be helping to rebuild all that's been destroyed. They'll be repairing damaged sections of the Housing building, and working in particular on the streets and businesses that both Transports and citizens own. They'll help everyone from the catacombs and the sewers and they'll return them to their homes, but only when they're certain that their coast is clear; life in Exsilium will go relatively back to normal, though the Initiative will warn their citizens and their Transports to remain vigilant. The threat might not be over yet.
BONUS POINTS: These bomb planes and their bombs are coming from a stockpile that the United Earth has been saving toward other military endeavors—waiting, really, for an end-day emergency. They're not exactly in high supply, so this entire excursion of theirs will do much to dwindle their existing supply for endgame events.
SOME THINGS OF NOTE
✕ While underground, everyone will still have access to the Network. The Initiative will regularly bring water, food, and blankets and clothing for everyone to ensure their safety.
✕ The planes will be invisible (think the Avengers' Helicarrier reflective technology) for the most part and highly protected—one attempt to destroy them will send them immediately out of range, and then they will come hurtling down into the ground. Basically, the planes are unmanned, and are booby-trapped. Say your character shoots a lightning bolt up at a plane? It's going to disappear, then drop straight back down to where your character is standing and explode. I HEARD YOU LIKE BOMBS SO I PUT BOMBS IN YOUR BOMB PLANE SO YOU COULD BOMB THINGS WHILE YOU BOMB THINGS.
However, the planes are not impossible to damage. If you're quick enough and powerful enough—or there are enough of you—you could subdue a plane before it has a chance to launch into the sky for its final descent!
✕ Bombs will be dropping roughly every hour at the fastest, to two hours at the slowest. So, all day, every hour to two-hours. Your characters will feel them like earthquakes from their safe spot underground, and sometimes, the concrete ceilings will begin to crack in precarious ways. Be vigilant!
✕ The catacombs will look like this and they feed into the sewer system. Basically it is a giant maze of unpaved, undeveloped mining tunnels that extend in several directions off of the existing sewers; moist, wet, humid, and incredibly dark.
✕ If one ventures out while the bombs are dropping, they'll be subject to intense smog and gas; their respiratory systems will come close to failure, and they'll have difficulty seeing or breathing. In rare cases, and with rare bombs, characters will begin to hallucinate from the fumes. Note that some characters can find themselves immune to the dangerous effects of the bombs, and will be able to help out in the event that some Masked troops need displacement by Transports!
✕ IF ANY OF THIS sounds like stuff you'd like your character to do, rather than instead just reacting to what's going on, let us know here and we can give you necessary details! Characters will be able to interact with ground troops of Masked and will, if powerful enough, be able to take out or at least damage some of the planes and bombs as they fall, for example.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
SEPT 24 (Early Morning) — The Initiative will make a post on the network warning transports that something isafoot at the Circle Kthey've been compromised, and something bad is going to happen, but they don't know what.
SEPT 24 (Late Evening) — A bomb will be dropped in the Marketplace of the Initiative Hold, destroying the shops there but sparing the bulk of the building. The Initiative will station members at every other street corner and will sound air raid sirens—they will come to every apartment in the housing building and they will try to get everyone to follow them underground.
Bombs continue until the 27th of September.
SEPT 27 (Evening) — The bombs have finally ceased to fall. The periodic air raid sirens have stopped, once the Initiative is certain that everything is safe. The ground troops have left, and the air will take days to clear.
Everyone will remain underground until October 3rd in a bid to make the United Earth think their mission was a success.
OCT 3 (Mid-Day) — With assurance of their safety and the disappearance of the United Earth's forces, the Initiative will gradually show everyone out of the catacombs and make a network announcement to let everyone know that the coast is clear and safe, but to remain vigilant and inconspicuous as best they can.
OCT 4 — OOC post will go up that details the after-effects of the plot, the Initiative and the United Earth's successes and failures, and any other information that will need to be made clear!
WHEW. If anyone has any questions or ideas or comments, you're welcome to leave them here! The plot will kick off with the Initiative announcement on the network on the 24th, so keep an eye out!
Thanks in advance everyone!
