UPCOMING MISSION: if you don't go outside and appreciate nature, so help me
Greetings, Transports! We come bearing an optional mission.
This one involves a trip to Wollongong, the current capital of Australia, circa 2464. Some of you who were around a while ago may remember that Australia in 2214 was a distinctly unpleasant, war-torn place — well, 2464 is much better! Everyone sits around at home, eats cheetos, and surfs the internet.
No, really.
Australia was one of the countries hit the hardest by the contagious diseases that swept the globe in the 2330s, and they still haven’t recovered. The population is decimated; old, run-down buildings that have outlived their usefulness are a common sight; and almost every single process that keeps the city running is done remotely. Who commutes to work anymore? Work from home, just like your neighbors, it’s the cool thing to do! Food is manufactured, packaged, and delivered by machines, all of which are programmed and operated from the safety of basements all across the nation. People can — and often do — go months on end without ever stepping foot outside. Newly arrived Transports will find that they barely even need their cloaking devices, since there’s no one around to look at them funny.
Well, your job is to change that.
Historically, it took until 2500 for Australia and the other closed-off countries to reopen their borders and begin to reintegrate, but we’re going to speed that process up a little. Your mission, Transports, is to mess with the city enough, disrupt enough processes and cut enough internet connections, that people have to actually leave their houses to see what’s wrong and how to fix it. The means by which you do this are entirely up to you. Massive property damage, simple wire-cutting, food-spoiling, disrupting network signals to make sure all entertainment is down — it’s up to you! Transports will have four days to wreck what havoc they may, then zap back safely to Exsilium.
This mission will begin on the 27th of April, and last until May 1st. They’ll be brought back just as the new wave of fresh recruits is being zapped in, for many heartwarming reunions. Again, this is optional, and any characters that wish to remain in Exsilium are free to do so.
And while the Transports (some of them, at least) are gone, the Initiative is hard at work improving their machinery. Stay tuned for a Transport-effecting announcement around the beginning of May! And feel free, as always, to ask any questions here, and use this post for any plotting!
