(re)construction plotting, signups and FAQ post, the followup adventures

Hello Exsilium and (belated) Happy 2014! As a followup to some of the stuff discussed in the previous plotting post:

This January, Chrysos will be pulling (or attempting to pull) together a large-scale collaborative effort to build proper base facilities on the ground in Exsilium. This is gonna require supplies! Manpower! Teamwork! Expertise! Character interaction! Caribou! Yaks!

If any of these things sound relevant to your characters' interests or yours, details under the cut:

1) Building what whuh wat wut?

Simply put, making a kind of open-access Transport HQ (or HQs, plural) down on planetside! Hopefully complete with some of the kinds of things the former Hold (and the Moonbase) used to provide: spaces for accommodation (with heat and light and plumbing, equipment housing, storage, workshops, labs, an indoor farm or two, stables/kennels, clinic, etc etc etc.

2) How is this going down?

There'll be a network post calling for help wanted on around Jan 7, followed by a log post of actual action shenanigans (various scenarios) on Jan 9 or 10, though the events played out on and offscreen are obviously free to take place anytime during IC January.

3) Wherefore are thou doing so?

Because at the present time the Transports are kind of scattered all over Snowsilium in little pockets of individual residence (of varying livability) and it would be helpful to have some kind of centralized location to actually organize business in as a faction, whether it comes to plans for checking out the UE, for getting newcomers set up, to hole up in in case Shit Goes Down, to actually have expensive futurequipment conveniently situated so people can get to their doctorly/sciencely/techly/various affairs, etc etc etc.

Also it seems like it might be a good idea to at least have the Transporter housed in a vaguely livable and defensible place given it's their key piece of equipment that the UE doesn't have, just saying

4) Where is building happening?

Four (potential) locations! The point was brought up that putting everything in one location might be a bad idea in case bombing happens again, so it's likely more than one of these (or all of them) will have something set up. Depends on what the Transports feel about it, too!

- The building currently holding the Transporter, a New Initiative-loaned facility which has a bare-bones setup and houses the Old Initiative NPCs. (Not sure if this is above or belowground, I'm assuming the latter at the moment!) May need New Initiative approval to actually ICly go forward on this front any DITR/NPC/others able to negotiate interested?

- An underground set of warehouses in the city area, close to the Thames ice highway, procured from the locals. Pretty run-down, but the walls are sturdy as heck! Connected by tunnel network to other parts of the central district.

- An underground former museum/aboveground hotel on the outskirts of the central city-state area. Has some funky internal decor, but it has its own small geothermal power facility (refurbished) keeping things running. Distant enough from town to be discreet.

- An old castle/fort in the highlands, close to what used to be the borderlands of former Exsilium. Safe and sound fortress material, but pretty far away from just about everything. Might be a good spot for the non-humans to make a discreet home in.

5) My character isn't an engineer/scientist/strongman/architect/etc., can they still get involved?

Yes, definitely! Even on the construction front, there's always a use for anyone who can pick up a hammer or a brick or a shovel or a broom; on other fronts, there's running supply sleighs, running protection for said supplies from raiders and yetis, doing side jobs to help pay for things, feeding people, talking and negotiating with locals, or just overall sticking one's nose in anywhere. Anything you or your character can think of to engage in this situation!

EDIT: Not-exhaustive of potential Things To Do:

- clean up rubbish from the sites
- cut wood or stone and lay bricks or pipes or wires and stuff
- plan where those bricks or pipes or wires or stuff go
- heavy lifting
- light lifting
- bend metal
- punch trees down
- discreetly negotiate help from locals
- get hands on power tools/medical equipment/generators/mechanielectrical gear that may be hard to get
- get money
- punch raiding yetis before they ruin the day
- punch raiding anything before they ruin the day
- watch out for spies!!!
- drive supply vehicles (sleighs/iceboats/etc)
- feed the sled dogs and other pack animals
- capture more pack animals maybe
- feed people
- maybe with cookies
- morale is important

6) Can my character get involved in more than one of the things? Can they do ALL THE THINGS?

Sure! (If your character would be the type/is capable.) Feel free to assume that Chrys has them on a slightly complicated but tightly arranged roster for different shift duties on different jobs, or something like that. It's gonna be a long at-least-a-month.

7) How does resources for building things?

That's partly where characters come in! Chrys and others have managed to get in contact with some local merchants and the like to get essential building and technical supplies in, but that takes payment, and doesn't account for everything that might be needed, either (like really specialized tech, which is something that might be better procured either from the moonbase's stuff or from missions). So whether it's doing odd jobs in exchange for the goods, or arranging some financial shenanigans in the past for money, how fancy they can make the place will depend partly on how much they can get.

There's also always using one's superpowers or weapons of choice to cut down a tree or six for lumber, of course. Or rip chunks of granite out of the hills.

8) How long will this work take?

Depends on how much help it gets! I'd say a safe bet would be "some decent semblance of a base/Hold before the end of January", if the current crew throw themselves into it.

9) but why caribou/yaks tho

Because no one has a truck in Snowsilium.

And you've gotta move those pipes somehow.

Questions, signups, ideas, comments, throw 'em all here! Lemme know if I left anything essential out, I'll update this main post as things move along.

LONG ANSWER. He hasn't been in combat mode too much (compared to canon) and hasn't had to go into full on Blade Mode at all. His fuel cells still have some good juice in them. Before the bombing if he ever felt like he needed to recharge, the Initiative took care of that for him (like after chasing down UE agents during the plague which involved him sprinting in ninja run).

Now, post-bombing, he is trying not to use up too much but of course we've had zombies, hunting down mutineers and now rebuilding so he IS draining his cells, just not as fast as he would be if he were chopping up Metal Gears. He'll have to find a way of keeping himself charged while here. Should be interesting! (If he has to go back to cannibalizing other machines, he will).

For his brain he gets nutrient gel packs from Tony Stark.

He has some science-buds (and lives with a science-bud) he's just been reluctant to talk to them about this. Because he's Raiden.

Worst case scenario he'll find a way to jam his sword into Gatorade something with electrolyte goodness.

Eventually his cells will be able to self-charge when he's at rest since his Weapon is his own body, so he's always evolving to be more durable and self-sustaining but I've been making him evolve slowly because I like being horrible to my characters.
