A winterland plotting interest gather/discussion post!!1

HELLO FRIENDS hope you had a merry winter holidays! A new year is coming, and with it, a new year to plot. Now that the Exsilium story has hit a chapter in which Transports are pretty much running the show for the time being, but it's been a pretty busy time of year for many, it seems like it might be handy to have an OOC get-together to throw around some ideas on Big Stuff For Characters To Do Together, to catch up on plot-and-subplot details (of which I'm not clear on the entirety of myself), for announcements/interestgathers for subplot ideas, and for general asking of questions that other people besides our mods might be able to help answer.

So without further ado:

WINTERLAND SHENANIGANS NEW YEAR'S EVE (AND AFTER) PLOTTING PARTY

I CAN ANSWER THIS ONE. Sort of. It sucks to be an NPC right now because they are effectively tethered to the transporter. They're all staying in the same room with it, or at least in the next room over. (I forget the limit to how far they can go, it's something like five miles? But not very far at all, is the point.) Through some small mercy, they've got a bit of an in with the New Initiative, but they technically don't work for them, unless Vennett and Lowell have decided to take up jobs with them-- but seeing as their skills are outmoded by NI's lack of time travel technology, it wouldn't be the same field. Trish just doesn't like them. Either way, something's better than nothing.

I can't exactly speak for the others, but the tone for the NPCs seems to be trying to find a place to exist and otherwise helping where they can. Lowell and Vennett still run the transporter together, and Trish is trying to figure out how to disseminate the med tech she still has. (I've been mulling it over but ultimately saving the plotting for after the holidays!) Together they're also keeping video diaries, in case anything... else... happens to them.

I think they are mostly subsisting on beer and peanuts, but I could be wrong.

I also cannot comment at this time on what Richard or Maggie are up to though! Because I don't know. I am guessing it sucks to be them too.

How about someone suggesting that Lowell and Vennett unplug the Transporter on the 1st so that more people won't get pulled in and kidnapped? Some sort of IC shenanigans could get it turned on again. Maybe someone decides to go on a beer and munchies run to the past?

You mean in regards to the changes to apps? I think Lowell's and Vennett's player actually have that worked out already! I know there's a post in the works for later.

Ok! I was just thinking it made sense ICly for people to call for the Transporter to be shut off. Why are characters standing by and letting the Transporter do its thing, and potentially pull people they care about (i.e. canonmates) out of their homes and into a (possible) war zone?

That might be a question better left to the mods specifically, I have no idea how the transporter stuffs works other than "it does". Though depending on what happens when it's completely powered down, it might mean that all the current NPCs cease to exist. So there's... that too.

haha OOPS yes I see how that could be a problem

this is actually kind of addressed in the post i'm going to be making after i eat my dinner, but yeah, turning the Transporter off completely would pretty much kill off all NPCs. so even if someone did suggest it, i am quite sure the NPCs would be like "um no" but feel free to suggest it anyway to get the answer ICly.

Well, Lowell, Trish and Vennett are the only... player controlled NPCs, as contradictory as that sounds. :') Was there anything in particular you wanted to know?

There have been a handful of modded NPCs, they all have icons! I don't remember all of them too well so don't take my answers for gospel, I can only answer 100% for Trish. The rest is just what I know from playing and talking to people, or educated guesses. (SOMEONE please correct me!)

Maggie Stafford is the woman who greets new arrivals, she is currently living in the same building as the other three and has the only available room nearby. I would imagine from what I know of her that she does in fact like transports, she is probably not enjoying this situation much at all either, and... if I had to take a stab, she does not seem the alcohol type to me, but you never know with some people!

Doctor Jeremy Sponde was partially responsible for the VR malfunction that caused everyone to go into everyone else's heads, and IMO!! he was a pretty nice dude and seemed pretty friendly to transports but he's dead now. :'(

Richard Lawson is the dude who just poofed because he got too far from the transporter. I don't know much about him, either. I am the worst, it's me.

There's also AI ([personal profile] aithinkthereforeaiam) who is the AI we stole from the Uruguay. Since AI is a computer I am not sure she has opinions on any of those things. We should try giving it beer someday.

The big thing right now is that all of the NPCs that came from old Exsilium can't stray too far from the transporter, or else they will disappear, since they are not supposed to exist in this timeline. The limit is roughly five miles.

There are currently three NPCs that are played by non-mods, that would be Trish, Lowell and Vennett as mentioned.

Trish thinks it's all BS but is approaching it with humor where she can while trying to look out for her remaining coworkers. She's "close" with a handful of transports but by nature she's not very trusting-- more like there's a select few she has good rapport with. And she enjoys booze very much!
