another intro post, CR AU edition

So, um, hello! I'm olesia, lowercase o, and I am quietly joining your ranks with a young girl named Ruka from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, which is the one with the card games, motorcycles, and occasional terminator robots. If you're unfamiliar with the canon, Ruka's an eleven-year-old girl with a bucket of issues who is part of a diversely dysfunctional team of pre-adults who play card games to save the world. Everyone in the group has a range of really stupid powers given to them by a Dragon that is also a Star that is also apparently an ancient god, as can probably be told by the fact said powers relate to playing card games. The youngest in the group, Ruka talks to spirits, is something of a mild empath, and spends her free time blacking out, getting kidnapped, or exploding into sparkles. I will link this gif at every possible opportunity.

Unfortunately for her, she's coming to Exsilium as a transplant from capeandcowl, where she has been stranded for just a few days shy of four years. This means she will be coming in as a fifteen-year-old girl with an even deeper bucket of issues, mostly centering on abandonment, trust, connecting with people (what a great trait for an empath), and the deeply rooted paranoia regarding the inevitability of being hurt. Immediately upon arrival she will lie forwards and backwards about who she is and the sort of place she came from, will not mention any prior experience in the "abducted into another world to save it" routine (this will technically be her third-ish time), and will definitely not admit to recognizing some of the names being bandied around.

But since some people are just too painfully familiar and it's just a mess of emotions, she won't always be successful! So, if you play a character in the ACE ATTORNEY, DC COMICS, MARVEL COMICS, or HOMESTUCK casts, then there is a very, very high probability that I will need to talk to you in the near future. I am sorry in advance.

Aside from that, the icons are a little inaccurate--her hair was recently dyed brown and I haven't gotten around to redoing them but w/e w/e details.

Oh oh oh oh OTHER EXES: Kanaya here is obviously the third - ashen though her feelings are at least as pale now! Kanji Tatsumi punk_cute is the second (well, he is not really an ex, more a good friend who was almost a moirail in paradisa, but Eridan sorts them into the same category of "people who were for some reason bosom buddies with alternates of me") and fintastic, who was at one point technically caliginous with an Eridan in theposthumans.

P.S. EVEN THOUGH RUKA IS THE VERY FIRST FLUSHED MEMBER OF THE FUTURE CRAU EX SUPPORT GROUP ERIDAN IS TAKEN IN THAT QUADRANT HERE HE'S DATING tipsygnostalgia SORRY RU-CHAN...

Like I've said, she's mostly trying the Really Shitty Coping Path of refusing to acknowledge past connections she has with people when they don't know her / don't share the same past etc / etc, so if they ever find out that she had a relationship with an alternate universe eridan it'd be like

I don't think there's much else you need to know about Kanaya relative to the City: aside from the new makeup, it is all subtle stuff she'd only really notice if she spent a lot of time around C&C Kanaya in person: a few months younger, a little more malnourished, a lot less sleep deprived. But the first thought of a person experienced with duplicates would definitely be "alternate" for sure.

Yep her rule of thumb is "if they don't recognize me, they're not the person I know, therefore I should treat them like a complete stranger." This is an easier feat when they're not especially close, which she and CNC Kanaya never were (mostly due to aforementioned murder attempts), so after the first couple of hurdles it should be easier and ee I am excited too.

Sweeeeeeeet!!! Oh! Another question - in network posts, I often make a big deal about the network ID concept (question three). What would Ruka put as hers? “Haruka Takahashi”? Something else?

You've got it! I was going to be making a note of it in the first post, but that's exactly right; it's the fake, "normal person" identity that's been crafted for her, and she's not letting go of that "potential" for normality any time soon.

Also thank you for linking that! I was literally just starting to reread the info posts to figure out the specific logistics of that.

AWESOME. I have also noted her brown hair, never fear. Does that mean if she washed out the dye or let it slip up, green roots would show through? Would she need to invest in hair care products?! Because if so, oh boy do I have ideas for how these two could meet in person.
