PLOT WRAP-UP: Salt The Earth & Here There Be Monsters
As of November 1st at 3am in-game time, the transporter machine was repaired and the Initiative was able to correct the mistake that had been made on the mission, resetting the timeline so that all of the monsters that had overtaken the island have disappeared. Any visible sign of their presence is gone, save for any injuries that the Transports themselves may have sustained, and Exsilium's native population has returned to its normal state.
Which brings us to the fallout of the mission to fight the Golden Horde. Due to the success of the mission, the area in Russia that the Transports had been sent to remained unpopulated and unfarmed for centuries. This means that in the year 2497 CE, a rare mineral was not discovered deep beneath the soil of this region. This mineral is one that had since become an integral resource to the United Earth, as they use it in the production of a drug that is administered by the government of the UE to their citizens to keep them docile. Within the UE, citizens are required to take doses of this drug on a daily basis.
The alteration of the timeline means that one of their largest mines for this mineral was never established in the first place. They are now experiencing a shortage. Several of the industrial cities throughout the United Earth have been hit the hardest by this shortage, and the populations are beginning to get uppity. It is not a full-scale rebellion, but it is enough to put the United Earth on guard. The citizens who try to incite others in rebelliousness are considered the worst offenders, and are gradually beginning to be sentenced to exile, which is still deemed by the UE to be a fate worse than execution. These people are being sent to Exsilium.
Transports may begin to notice unfamiliar faces around the city, with more gradually arriving. All of these new arrivals will be suffering withdrawal symptoms from no longer being on the United Earth's drug -- symptoms of someone who has been cut off from a very powerful narcotic. The Initiative has been working on methods to help people through this recovery process, but they are not perfected yet. Some of these new arrivals will die within a week of showing up in the city, though some will be able to fully recover from their addiction with time.
A NOTE ABOUT TIME TRAVEL IN-GAME:
When major shifts have occurred to the timeline in Exsilium, the native population's memories will be affected. They will believe that the new version of the world is the way that things have always been. However, since the Transports are from other universes, their perception of the timeline is different from that of those who are native to the universe, so their memories will be unaffected.
So, for example, if the Transports were to go back in time and dye the ocean purple, upon their return to Exsilium the native population would believe that the ocean had always been purple, whereas Transports would still clearly remember that the ocean didn't used to be purple and only became that colour after they went on a mission to alter it.
