medics, healers, etc: for the upcoming plot

Between plurk and comments in the plot post, we had a few decentralized conversations going on. To include everyone interested, here's an actual ooc comm post :D


First off, we think it's probably not unreasonable that characters have discussed what they might want to do in the event of a mandatory mission, because some of the clinic characters have been mobilized for such missions. But to minimize the handwaveyness, we're saying there hasn't been any formal meeting or official plan prior to the Oct 17 briefing.

So: we've got this bunch of people who are all healers of some kind or other. Some of them won't want anything to do with the fighting (which is part of how this idea came up OOCly). Others are pretty battle-keen and used to combat.

Of course there are going to be medic characters who prefer to stay with their own friends/units even if they're ICly associated with the transport clinic, and that's totally fine. However, if you'd like your character to be part of this, here are some preliminary thoughts:

A medbay/ tent/ pavilion away from the fighting
Some people actually evacuating people from the battlefield and taking them to the tent
Some other people doing triage on the battlefield
Some other other people providing support during the battle to fighters as they fight, RPG buff style

Um, at one point I'd talked to charles about getting him in here for something. Use his mental powers for calming people down and stuff.

As for organization, we'll need someone on triage as well in the med tent. Like what Margaret (Hotlips) Houlihan used to do on the show. Decide which patients needed to go to the OR first...besides the guys on the line doing it.

Having someone go nuts on the table or something? Running out of supplies? Anything else you could think of?

Maria is probably most immediately useful in the clinic given her limited mobility but that honestly probably would not deter her for volunteering for triage duties if they end up shorthanded or in need of more bodies out there.

Sweet deal! Maria would totally be down for handling triage in the OR tent, as suggested upthread.

I kind of like the suggestion of running low on/out of certain supplies (maybe they end up with a higher than expected number of a certain kind of casualties?). Possibly ~dramatic shit~ could ensue when it looks like the enemy has a chance of overrunning their position?

As for merchans, Maria would be totally likely to notice her looking more peaky than is ideal -- at the very least she'd call her out on it, in a SIT DOWN BEFORE YOU FALL DOWN way. Aaaaand then she'd probably ply her with tea in the absence of anything more useful to do, because what are these crazy magical diseases, you people honestly :|

OH YEAH. And she is slowly dying because she is an ocean spirit and Exsilium's ocean is DEAD. Because of it she's been growing sick over a short period of time.
By the time this plot rolls around, she will be NOTICEABLY pale, with hands shaky, ragged breathing, painful coughing -- all things she has been doing her damnedest to HIDE. The most troubling thing here? Nothing is going to seem able to HEAL these symptoms.

Unfortunately being surrounded by her fellow heal-y types will probably make it all highly apparent that she is NOT okay.

Feferi will probably more or less stick around the tent but be pretty hard to corral. Chances are she'll be running off half the time to drag wounded people off the field and back to the tent. She can carry a lot of supplies all at once so she is like a one troll ambulance.

Orihime would be most useful as Triage I believe. She could probably also do some recovery but as a tiny 17 year old girl...she can't carry everyone. With her defensive powers she can shield some while healing.

So, this guy isn't a medical anything, but he can help out in any way that doesn't involve cutting into people (you really don't want that).

Noel's a very strong kid who could last damn well on a battlefield. And if someone's badly injured to the point even his cure spells aren't cutting it and needs to be brought to the tent, he can keep them stable at least until he gets them there.

LATErish tagging in to this but Winry is all over helping people who are actual... medical folks, and also doing carrying to the tents as needed. She has medical knowledge, is not medically trained, but has good common sense and an ability to keep a cool head and work under crises, so she's helping hands where-ever they're needed!
