birdhousesoul: Anders is healing someone and his hands are glowy! (healing)

OOC organization and directory: Transport Clinic

Anders has inherited the transport-run clinic.

I am making THIS HERE POST as the clearinghouse for clinic-related stuff:

THE DIRECTORY ETC HAVE MOVED here!!!

Add your character to the clinic staff. (how this works)

Page a random clinician to your thread or plot. (how this works) | (track the paging thread)

The clinic will have its directory OOCly maintained right here here and ICly added to the network, so if someone would ICly want a specific doctor, they can contact that doctor directly (by IC contact post or, if the doc-mun's amenable, by handwaving). No need to fuss with paging someone random, in that case.

Add to the clinic staff:

Page a random clinician:

Directory of clinic staff:

The directory is now maintained in its own journal here.

notes
what is this clinic?
A note on medical treatment in Exsilium: There is, and always has been, an Initiative-run hospital. The transports started their own clinic early on, due to distrust of the Initiative. However, the resources in the transport clinic are themselves supplied by the Initiative, and low-ranking Initiative medics have been necessary to train the staff in use of the equipment, etc.

In other words, when you go to the transport-run clinic, you're still not completely free of Initiative technology. What you are doing is getting care that doesn't involve Initiative scientists knocking you out and running mysterious diagnostics on you without your consent.

explanation 1: about ADDING TO STAFF
Running a clinic is IC for Anders, since he spent about six years doing that in Kirkwall. He hates the Initiative and he hates the idea of collaborating with them, but the alternative -- simply sending everyone to the Initiative hospital -- is far worse, in his eyes.

If your character has any kind of medical experience or ability, Anders won't turn them away. I don't have to know you personally; you can be a brand-new player; your character can be from an advanced starfaring civilization or an apprentice midwife from the Clan of the Cave Bear. Anders is used to working in a crisis situation with a needy population of refugees. He'll take what he can get.

If your character has no actual background in medicine and wants to learn, Anders will put them to work cleaning bedpans and assisting with things.

In short, we'll take anyone, EXCEPT THIS: If your character is randomly crazy and signs up for entertainment purposes, Anders isn't going to deal with it, and will turn them away. While it might be hilarious to have Spongebob Squarepants bumbling around a clinic, Anders wouldn't ICly allow that. HEALING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. That's about the only scenario in which someone will be turned down.

The mods had established a while back that anyone working in the clinic does get a small additional stipend to their ordinary Initiative pay. I don't recall an exact figure being named, but I'll check and update here.

explanation 2: about PAGING A CLINICIAN
In my opinion, in-game businesses and institutions exist primarily to foster CR. I'd like to make that as easy as possible. I've seen games where people sort of lag while waiting for the doctor-muns to sort out who's taking the thread, and I've been in a horror game where there were only a couple of doctors and the muns didn't get much of a chance to RP anything but healing people.

It can be a pain in the ass to arrange some kind of medical intervention in a thread when you actually don't care what character is involved, you just need someone. It can also be OOCly uncomfortable to ask a specific player you don't know to jump into your thread, since you have no way of knowing whether they feel like playing Florence Nightingale that particular moment.

Therefore, I'm making this thread for paging any doctor, and whatever mun is up to thread at the time they're paged can say they're the clinic staffer on call. ICly, whoever's on call will have received the call and has that IC reason to respond.

OOCly, the players who have a character on clinic staff can have notifications of On Call thread comments emailed to them by tracking this post -- or just tracking the paging thread, if you've got a paid account. If you don't want to do that, you're not obliged to track the post, of course.

Medical involvement in canon: He's a priest, so healing is What He Does. ...It's all he can do. No fighting skills in a world that revolves around fighting. ;_;
Involvement in transport clinic: HEALIN SHIT BASICALLY. His heals are very complete (whether it leaves scars is up to player discretion, but if it does they'd be v faint), but it doesn't work on old, scarred over wounds or chronic diseases. At best he can heal the symptoms of diseases/conditions/stuff that hangs around.
He can also resurrect the recently dead, but only if they've died of wounds. No old people or death-by-disease people are coming back on his watch. :(

Medical involvement in canon: She's the Witch of All Things Life-y! She also ran a makeshift vet out of her own home.
Involvement in transport clinic: She will do all of the things! All of them! Part time, as her schedule permits, not only would she be happy to help do the actual healing, but also the menial tasks, like bandage-changing and med-distributing, and even just checking in on patients to keep them happy and comfortable. She's also more than happy to make house culls-- I mean, calls.

Involvement in transport clinic: Emergency medic, seeing as he can teleport to where he's needed and work his mojo for truly dire situations.

IC Contact Post

Medical involvement in canon: Aileen has magic healing abilities as well as trained knowledge of modern medicine. She's a licensed surgeon and helped run her own clinic back home illegally with a group of like-minded fae(magical creatures).
Involvement in transport clinic: This is pretty much the exact sort of thing Aileen is used to. She'll take anything the clinic needs her for, and basically spend most of her time there anyway out of a sense of duty. She also very familiar with modern medicines and illness so if any of the non-mages are too old-school for a particular problem she can take care of those.

P.S. she will attempt to reorganize the medicine cabinet and then leave a color-coded list of where everything is and what it does. Aileen is used to owning a clinic so she might get kinda pushy about doing things a certain way.

Medical involvement in canon: Nananea has a legitimate medical degree from a university on her home planet, and she's been the sole doctor on her station/ship for about 10+ years, dealing with refugees and such.
Involvement in transport clinic: General doctor stuff, I guess? She has a lot of experience treating injuries, she's a decent surgeon, etc. She's basically sort of a jack of all trades type of doctor.

Medical involvement in canon: Canonly, she's one of the most powerful healers in Middle-Earth, second to Elrond, probably not many others. Elven Healing is vague in canon, but I handwave it as mostly herbs, lots of knowledge, and the blessing of the Valar (aka what anyone else would call "Elf magic," but it's subtle. Not like...glowy insta-heal.). She also has Nenya, her magic ring that she will not be telling anyone about, and one of it's powers is healing. So yes. ~Magic.~
Involvement in transport clinic: Healing! She can do just about anything. Except that elves of her type don't catch communicable diseases, so I imagine she doesn't have much experience there... Probably best to call her in only for injuries.

Adrasteius Bloodspeaker | OC/World of Warcraft | [personal profile] bloodspeaker

Medical involvement in canon: Adrasteius is centuries old, and he's spent a good part of his lifetime as a battle medic. He's an extremely skilled discipline priest & is capable of healing minor to grievous wounds, resurrecting the dead, and dispelling harmful magical brouhaha, and curing diseases. He's a healing powerhouse, basically, and it's just about the only thing he doesn't gripe about doing (mostly)!
Involvement in transport clinic: ALL THAT WAS DESCRIBED ABOVE ... Adrasteius is also a mage, which means he can travel very quickly from place to place via short and long-range teleportation, making him v effective at responding quickly to touch-and-go situations. But he'll honestly be hanging around the clinic whether you want him or not, so!

Medical involvement in canon: Isaac is a doctor (a resident, but has finished all his schooling) in his own universe, with a vested interest in infectious diseases and epidemiology, and specializing in trauma care and pediatrics. No magic, but his senses can be to his advantage in treatment and diagnosis.
Involvement in transport clinic: Isaac will throw himself into work at the clinic and help out wherever and however he can. He'll spend much of his time helping either at the clinic itself or making housecalls.

He will, however, be a stickler about keeping the clinic clean and sanitary to meet modern medical standards. To give an idea how bad he'll be about it, well, this behavior earned him the title of "Resident OCD Clean-freak" among his colleagues at his home hospital.

Medical involvement in canon: She's nursed the main character through some serious injuries, so I've presumed she's pretty proficient in both field medicine and using healing spells. I figure she'd just be helpful with wounds/injuries, not illness.
Involvement in transport clinic: She doesn't really have the temperament or desire to work full-time, so she'd be willing to help in emergencies. In addition, she'd probably need to be there a couple times a week or so--enough so that she knows where things are/how they work, etc. (Although I think she's been there a few times as a cat--I need to check with GJ about that XD)

Medical involvement in canon: Zelos is a magical healer, it's not his main specialization but with his weapon his healing capability will grow over time. Also has basics in first aid and capable of learning more.
Involvement in transport clinic: Healing and what not. No reviving the dead, limb loss (unless super fresh and you have the limb with you!), chronic illnesses or super old injuries. He's mostly looking for something to do that isn't combat training, so he'd be more than happy to take up shifts. He'll even volunteer to take the night shifts, since the dude doesn't need sleep anyway. Definitely not a super driven guy, but he's a fast learner and would be willing to learn anything like modern medicine or other techniques because hey- something to do and he kinda likes healing people.

Involvement in transport clinic: He wants to learn more about healing too, so he'll eagerly help out with bedpans and the like! Hilbert would also be able to take any minor injuries off the hands of the more experienced doctors so their expertise isn't clouded and they can focus on bigger things. He's an able hand and focused enough to do what he's tasked with, no matter what it is.

Hilbert, being a Pokémon Trainer, is also experienced in taking care of animals and non-animal creatures like floating ice cream and garbage. Wouldn't mind doing house calls and the like.

She was always able to recognize many plants, however, and some of their properties. During her time in [community profile] witchesreign she specialized in two majors, one of which was battlefield medicine and so she came to learn a lot about medicine and white magics.
Involvement in transport clinic: I am honestly up for whatever so even if she doesn't fully utilize her knowledge and just helps around with menial chores I'm cool with that. I'd like for some people to help her regain her abilities tho :3

Involvement in transport clinic: Whatever they'd be happy to let him do! Starting with more cleaning equipment and prepping patients to go to the people with more skills, and gradually letting him do more stuff with stitching people up?
