PLAYER PLOT:

CIVIL WARS ARE HOW YOU GET THINGS DONE

At approximately 3:00AM on November 16th, a group of Transports led by Charlie Cutter [personal profile] alittlesweptup and Chloe Frazer [personal profile] totallytrustworthy will sabotage key systems of the moon base and take possession of the Transporter room in order to wrestle away what little control remains in the Initiative’s hands and put it in the collective hands of the transports.

Over the course of the next four days, the mutiny will serve to spark a community wide conflict that affects the base as a whole. Lines will be drawn in the sand. Relationships will be forged and broken - do you side with the mutineers and help them from them outside? Do you support regaining the transport room and helping the Initiative take back control of the base? Do you choose to remain neutral? This is the place where everyone gets to pick sides, to wage small wars with or against people you understood to be your friends, your family. That inter-community conflict is the main focus of the event; taking the transport room only serves to light that spark.

In order to deal with the mutiny itself - but not necessarily to resolve the wider social conflict that occur as a result -, randomly selected teams of characters will work together to get the base’s systems back online and to eventually retake the Transport room from the mutineers.

EVENT CALENDAR
There are three main elements in this plot. All three run concurrently from November 16th to November 19th. All the relevant logs will go up at the same time; back-dating and forward-dating is encouraged.

COMMUNITY WIDE EFFECTS (Nov. 16th - 19th (and beyond?))
While randomly selected teams will be the ones to actually deal with the mutineers themselves, characters are encouraged to engage with the distractions and network with fellow players in order to enable or deter those teams from fulfilling their goals. Are you supporting the mutineers and trying to sabotage any attempts to retake the Transporter room from the outside? Are you trying to help the teams reach their goals so they can fix the base’s systems and re-take the Transporter room? How this plays out, not to mention the future of Initiative - Transport relations, depends heavily on what choices the community makes during this conflict.

Given the scale of this event, it’s important to note that there are minor and major conflicts available to anyone willing to participate regardless of whether or not they sign up for specific tasks. Player characters can defect at any time, they can choose to sabotage or support one another in the chaos. They can struggle with the system malfunctions or assist any others also suffering through them. We also absolutely want to encourage everyone in game to examine their current CR and consider alignment and/or how it might affect them on an IC level. Even characters maintaining neutrality are vital for keeping the peace, preventing escalation and even (in more extreme cases) injury or death. You do not have to sign up to prove vital to the cause on either side.

DISTRACTIONS (Nov. 16-19th)
Small teams of mutineers will be taking down key systems of the moon base from outside the transporter room in an attempt to both cover the initial takeover of the Transporter room and to create blocks to keep the room from being liberated. Key systems on lockdown are: main lighting (meaning there will be emergency lighting only), door systems (meaning at first player characters will only be able to access housing, the cafeteria and restrooms until this lockdown is overridden), gravity control and the network (meaning no use of network functions until it’s restored).

There will also be a program piggybacked on the AI to monitor its actions in case Transports try to use it against the mutineers. While the mutineers won’t be able to stop the AI from doing anything, they’ll at least be aware of its processes.

Randomly selected teams will have to deal with these distractions and get some or all of these systems back online before anyone can reach and re-take the Transporter room.

TRANSPORTER ROOM (Nov. 19th)
A small team of mutineers (led by Charlie and Chloe) will be taking the Transporter room proper and barricading themselves inside until ousted either by diplomatic or forcible means. Further, members of the mutiny will be holding positions in the Observatory to keep lookout for Transports meaning to reach and re-take the Transporter room at bay.

A randomly selected team will eventually get past the Observatory and into the Transporter room. The characters will be tasked with either negotiating or apprehending (or worse) the mutineers holding the Transporter room. Note that some or all of the distractions will have to be dealt with before any team can get this far.

TEAM SIGN-UPS
In an effort to keep everything fair, the characters who DO end up dealing with the mutineers themselves (as opposed to engaging with the technical and social difficulties that arise as a result) will be randomly selected. To put your character’s name in the hat, please comment to the appropriate thread below. We’ll randomize final team selections on Sunday, Nov. 10th at 5:00pm PST. When signing up for team selection, please be aware that mutineers are armed. While many won’t attack your character on sight, their first priority is to hold the Transport room until their goals are reached. If the team you’re on chooses more violent means to deal with their assigned problem, it could very well beget more violence. Depending on how you handle the circumstances, your actions could be fatal for yourself or others. On that note, your character does NOT have to be a fighter to prove valuable to these teams; thinkers, tech specialists and diplomats are just as valuable as someone who can swing a sword or throw a spell.

Furthermore, while we want to make sure everyone can be involved in this player plot, please be aware that having your character on a team will require you be around to play and be as active as possible as it’s vital that conflict resolution happen in a timely manner. If circumstances change that make you unable to participate as fully as you’d like, please notify us so we can cycle someone else into your slot.

DISTRACTION TEAMS
It’s important to note that sign up teams are a means to an end and not the focal point of this plot; teams will therefore be kept small to ensure that the resulting clashes aren't overwhelmingly time consuming to log out.

(Teams responsible for getting the following systems back online:)
NETWORK
1. Shelke Rui
2. Barbara Gordon
3. Sollux Captor

LIGHTING
1. Asch
2. Peter Parker
3. Chrysos

GRAVITY CONTROLS
1. Tenth Doctor
2. Pascal
3. Soldier Blue

DOOR SYSTEMS
1. Stephanie Brown
2. Jaime Reyes
3. Kate Kane

TRANSPORTER ROOM FINAL CONFLICT - (characters responsible for dealing with the mutineers holding the Transporter room proper)
1. Koltira
2. Kang
3. Barbara Gordon
4. Ella Ellis
5. Lightning Farron
6. Kate Kane
7. Hitsugaya Toushirou
8. Raiden

THE MUTINEERS
Currently the group led by Charlie and Chloe consist of about eight other player characters. It’s a rag tag group made up of people largely dissatisfied with the Initiative from the get go, who are unhappy with the current state of affairs on the moon. While we need to keep numbers limited for the sake of both IC discretion and OOC wrangling, if you want to join the mutineers prior to the plot’s start, you can toss your name into the hat for that as well. Slots will be limited and you must be willing to backdate a quick log to establish pre-existing CR. Because backdating CR is necessary, the time limit for signing up for these slots is shorter than everything else (so we can get those logs out of the way before the rest of the event kicks off). Slots will be randomized for mutineer positions on Wednesday, Nov. 6th at 5:00pm PST.

Not all mutineers will be present for the final conflict. Some focused teams with be disseminated throughout the base from the beginning of the event to serve as distractions (as taking the base’s systems offline largely can’t be done from inside the transporter room).

Please note that it’s not necessary to be a part of the original group to choose to affiliate with the mutineers. If you character wishes to sabotage Transports that are working against the mutiny from the outside to support the movement, you are absolutely free and highly encouraged to do so!

AFTERMATH
How this player plot ends is defined by the actions the community takes. Is the resolution a peaceful one? Is it one colored by violence? What sorts of dividing lines are drawn, how relationships are repaired, how amends are made and what’s ultimately done with the mutineers is entirely up to the community at large. Actions, big or small, have consequences. Whether you’re part of an established team or participating in the base-wide conflicts, your character’s actions determine both the outcome of this immediate conflict and the shape of things to come. So be careful and thoughtful; keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

OPT-OUT
Don’t want to be involved in either side of a space mutiny? On hiatus and can’t participate? You can either have your character stay in the housing unit of the base, or you can send them on a mission prior to the mutiny! Please note that any characters away on a mission will not be able to return until the transporter room is retaken.

Questions?
Please ask in the separate comment for questions below!

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that the motivations here for the mutiny aren't all that specific, which was an oversight on our part. Chloe and Charlie want the transports to have more of a presence in regards to the way decisions are made in Exsilium. They want more equal footing and less restriction, and the only time to really strike with a mutiny is while the Initiative is weak; taking transports to a base riddled with infection and a lack of resources was the last straw - the transports deserve control.

Furthermore, we want to stress that while this isn't the most diplomatic method the mutineers could've taken to accomplish these goals, the want to avoid causing as much bodily harm as is possible. Their goals are not to harm the transport OR initiative population on the moon base, but rather to forcibly facilitate a reorganization of the leadership in the base. They will be as peaceful as they can while still trying to accomplish their goals and safeguard their bargaining position and will only resort to violence if that's something the transport community escalates first.

Q&A response RE: motivation and goals can be found here!

EDIT II: Mutineers have been selected! This is the list of characters in association with Charlie and Chloe that kick off the event; you do not have to be on it to be pro-mutineer or even a mutineer, but these characters will be involved in facilitating and maintaining the transport room lock in.

Caspian's not down with endangering other people, but he's been involved in a rebellion which worked out pretty well for him, all things considered. So he'll be willing to listen to arguments from both sides, and trying to decide which to come down on.

Surprisingly swayable to Anti-Mutiny!

[personal profile] angel_of_death 2013-11-04 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
On one hand, Walter's reaction to being kidnapped a month ago was extremely hostile. As in didn't even listen to the speech or get to see the explosion hostile. He doesn't like the Initiative's methods of picking them out at random and the isn't a fan of their procedures. Considering that, you might think he'd be an attractive person to try to sway to the side of the Mutiny.

ONLY, THERE'S A CATCH. Apparently, his cohort is going to be away on a mission when the mutiny happens, meaning ONE OF HIS OWN will be stranded due the Mutiny. Add to that a concern that the Transporter might be damaged during the mutiny, and not only does his concern for a fellow Hellsing operative become that much more heightened, his secret tension over his interrupted mission back in his own time gets thrown into the mix. Consequentially, Walter is going to be royally pissed off with the mutineers.

Some incentives to get him to coordinate!
1. He has radio transceivers that don't need the network to work. Four of them (unless he ends up giving one or more of them away beforehand, but he's definitely going to have two of them at the time-- one for him and one for Seras, who will be away).
2. He also has weapons that can cut through thick steel like a hot knife cuts through butter. If proper gravity is restored, I imagine he can probably cut through the moonbase's doors without a problem (correct me if there is something special about the doors that would make me mistaken in this assumption). Two seconds and done, no explosions or extra damage necessary with the exception of needing a new door later. Of course, the only ones who will know about his weapons are the people who saw him use them at an earlier point. So far I've only written him using them during the zombie outbreak.

Philosophically, Peter agrees with the mutineers more than the pro-Initiative folks, but that is 100% overridden by his philosophy about saving his own ass. He will be remaining neutral, and will be available for metaphorically tying his CR down and making them stay put if that's a thing that needs to happen.

While Dick’s been willing to follow orders for the past ten months when they gel with his personal code of batconduct he’s never trusted the Initiative’s trajectory, and the bomb plot’s fallout along with his own hideous failed semi-mutiny attempt was the last straw for him. He’s been stewing away in anger and survivor’s guilt without a real outlet, and he’s pretty desperate now to reclaim some autonomy and feel like somehow he’s making a difference and doing something real and important to help the people who are still alive. spoilers he is making a v big mistake.

However!! Dick is ultimately more loyal to people than he is invested in taking down the initiative itself right here right now so the moment things turn violent or start to cause harm to his friends on the other side his resolve will crumble away so fast. I’m 100% open for plotting in terms of what specific things might ultimately lead him to break away from his support of team mutiny though so come at me

If pushed, Isaac Lahey will be part of the mutiny, mostly because he's still pissed that they were... you know, forced to go to the FLIPPING MOON. Which, for a werewolf, kind of sucks.

But that's only if he's pushed and has a concrete reason to join the fighting. Otherwise, he'll probably sit with Peter and popcorn.gif the whole thing, because it seems a bit senseless to him.

Helena is going to be going along with the mutiny with the specific purpose of monitoring from the inside. To be honest I am not sure yet which side will win out - her anger with the Initiative and everything that has happened, or her loyalty to Barbara. She was very much raised to be like FUCK AUTHORITY so mutiny is right up her ally, just how it plays out really depends. At the very least her intention will be to eventually betray the mutiny when she goes in.

She might have a throwdown with Kate/Batwoman if there is an opportunity for it that makes sense, to 1. prove her loyalty to the mutiny 2. try to express to Batwoman what she is trying to do ON THE SLY (like batsly) so that she doesn't try to fuck with Helena helping the mutineers and maybe get a message back to Barbara.

BUT YES. HELENA IS A HOT MESS. A POTENTIALLY VIOLENT HOT MESS, although she won't be instigating violence to make it worse, it'll be more like if someone tries to stop the progress of her mission then she will use force. OPEN TO SO MUCH PLOTTING AND DISCUSSION?

Billy is not happy with the Initiative at all, but at the same time he wonders about the Transports' ability to effectively organize. He hopes they have a plan to seize all the pertinent information from the Initiative---or to see if the Initiative is as well-informed as they claim to be.

If the Initiative are leading them without much of a plan, he'll be infuriated. And then he might flip. But if he doesn't know, he'd prefer to wait and see, depending on how events sway him.

Usagi ([personal profile] moonlitlove) is new and will be frightened by all the fighting. She'll beg and plead for people to talk it out, fruitlessly of course.

So Elliot is going to be on team "Yell at the mutineers for being morons."

Because yes, despite the fact that he complains about the Initiative a lot? Elliot does realize that they understand more about how all this stuff works and the state of their world than the rest of them do. So he thinks mutiny is pretty stupid, because if you have a problem with the Initiative, you should just try to let them know and not make a stupid mess. Just keep trying until they listen, don't potentially endanger people, wow.

He's completely willing confront them in any means necessary to get his point across, whether it be in a slot or just standing somewhere and yelling.

What the hell are you doing.

Kang's not too fond of the Initiative either, but this is a horrible idea. Yeah, let's fight amongst ourselves when we have the UE to deal with. Infighting is the biggest reason the side of an old war he was on lost. And, doing it while they're stuck on the moon with limited supplies and there are space zombies is just extra brilliant.

He will definitely be trying to put a stop to this nonsense. He'd prefer diplomacy because of his thing about unity in the face of adversity, but he will resort to violence and even killing if he has to.

Charlie Cutter is helping run the train wreck and will be leading the mutineers and takeover of the transporter along with Chloe Frazer. No one is surprised (actually that's a lie - I imagine a lot of his CR may be a little surprised given he's generally an amiable sort of dude when he's not being a huge dick to people about being stuck on the moon). Like Chloe's post above, this is really more a place if you'd like to backdate CR or touch on any character specific questions that don't necessarily fit anywhere else etc.

For what it's worth, I have an open post for him here at the zombie log (in a neutral point where non-fighters would be able to talk to him too!) as well as a network post during the zombie event if you'd like to touch either one of those for now and establish some CR that you can take advantage of for this plot. I welcome both positive and negative CR, so if you're trying to solidify your character's pro-mutiny or pro-intitiative leanings, that's a great place to do it!

I'm so, so stoked by the response to this so far and I can't wait to WRECK EVERYTHING!!!1

Steph is not at all impressed with this bullshit and will basically be looking at the mutineers as terrorists sry2say. So anyone involved in it (tiny kids aside) will likely be burning bridges with her forever, she won't trust anyone who mutineed ever again.

As for what she's up to:

The doors being down won't be a problem for her, since she's holding onto the teleporting power and will likely be going to check on CR in the first few hours of the event. Her and Saul picked up some small generators and assorted survival gear during their mission, so she can give people lights, water, food and thermal blankets in case the heat goes out.

Once she's checked on everyone she's gonna try to teleport into the Transporter room to make sure that's secured, and end up caught in a teleport trap for a little while. Jesse and Saul will rescue her, it's okay.

After that she's going to want to set up base somewhere to coordinate and make sure the mutineers can't get their hands on the spaceship, since with them controlling the Transporter, the ship is the only other way off the base. She'll want to get people coordinating with each other instead of rushing about doing god knows what, and will probably drag Oracle and Saul with her to help wrangle people (hi Sage and Heather). So if people want their characters involved in that we can work something out??? Maybe??

She's slated for a confronation with Max Kearny, in which Steph will be gently broken a little bit, but that will likely be near the end of the plot, so before that she's free for anything!! (Depending how things go down w/ Max, Steph might end up hiding from people for the rest of the month so sorry about that, friends.)

Basically she's just gonna be one very unhappy Batgirl for those few days.

Alice may be leaning pro-mutiny, as I remembered that the Initiative has been on her shit list for a while now. How involved she'll be is still up in the are, but at the very least, I can have her be outspoken over her Opinions and where she stands.

Kerrigan doesn't care and will just be rolling her eyes at you all. The Initiative's problems don't really mean much to her, but mutiny is just such a silly idea as far as she's concerned.

Johnny hates the Initiative. He's certainly made that known in his time here. However, he has said that they need to work together in order to get this situation under control. It doesn't seem very under control, though, does it? They're even still bringing in new recruits despite having a lack of space and resources... tsk tsk. So I think he'd be on board for this mutiny. He can be on the distraction squad. Or if Chloe and Charlie want someone with super strength helping them in the barricade, count him in for that too.

Elmer doesn't give a damn about much so go ahead and have your little mutiny. Just make sure everyone's smiling by the end, okay? =D He'll be around not help either side, just making sure people are doing alright in his strange little way.

Alucard had been working well with the Initiative so far and won't really like the idea of a mutiny. But if the mutineers are clearly winning this thing, he'll step aside. He's not a coward, he's just practical and will side with whomever wins.

After a lot of consideration, Tsuzuki will stay on the Initative's side this time around. Not because he appreciates being kidnapped and put in a terrible situation, but rather because he's used to being taken from his old life and having to learn to cooperate despite of it. Christopher will be helping both sides as the mood takes him. Remembering that he is an erratic wild card character, he will hinder and help anyone in turn.

Want a guy to trip up or distract a mutineer as they're hard at work? Okay.
Need someone to block a doorway once the doors come back on so that anti-mutineers can't get through? Deal.
Do the medics need to get some more supplies but can't be distracted from helping the injured? On it!

Every choice will be made on whim, with no effort to be consistent. STICK THAT UP YOUR TEST TUBE AND ANALYSE IT, LAFORET So basically, lots of random efforts to assist or cause conflict, in everything from supply runs and physical combat, even including helping patch up people who are injured.

Aurican is a dragon of conduct and law, so the chances of him being against any sort of mutiny is likely. But he is a dragon of thousands of years of experience of helping a community of hunter gatherers into a complex society with working industries and sophisticated culture and he knows at least means of neglected groups or groups who refuse to be part of society and the problems they create and the problems the dominating government can and will create with such groups. So TL;DR if he finds out the reason behind it, he will still be against the actions the mutiny, but he will at least try at being a hostage negotiator and try to at least keep things civil.

After some deliberation, Peter's going to be anti-mutiny because they are on the moon, and also, he isn't a big fan of revolutions that end up getting people hurt. He likes sticking it to the man, but he doesn't think that this is really the best way to go about it. The Initiative also just brought him back, and he's fairly certain that coming back with no injuries but the same damaged suit (that he promptly traded out for his weapon) is something that is a pretty big indication of what really happened.

But he's neutral because he doesn't want people hurt either way. Peter has a "no person left behind" policy that ended up even getting through to his Doc Ock, so I imagine that there may be some tensions there.

They also aren't very fond of humans in general.

She may simply remain neutral, but considering her own anger towards traitors for personal reasons, she may also break open a few doors and go mutineer hunting. Since actually killing anyone would be kind of bad, it'd probably be better if she was stopped before it came to that.

SO I JUST REMEMBERED but Ella's weapon has been conveniently kept under wraps for a long time since she rarely needs any help but, it might come in handy.

LONG STORY SHORT: Ella has a collection of marbles, all black with the exception of a white one. While holding the white one, Ella can teleport everyone holding a black marble to her, as some sort of calling.

Meaning? This could be the way this certain group of individuals end up together, since Ella might have given them a black marble beforehand in order to secure a number of strong people to be right where they need to be.

She could also use it to move people from locked spaces, as long as she had given them a black marble before they got stuck? It's likely she has been trying to at least use the marbles a bit through time, so yeah, she should have around 12 or so by now.
