Shotgun Trial, coming to an Exsilium near you!
What is this?
Either something to ignore or something to stare at, but the two lawyers wrangling some concept of law into order are about to get their first case -- unintentionally. With the official start of the Transport Police Officer Wing coming soon, it's time for the lawyers to also get into the thick of it and start applying what they know.
Which, as it turns out, is probably a grand load of nothing.
What will happen?
On the day after Christmas, Jesse Pinkman will be found high on meth at the site of a murder. JOHN DOE, one of the NPC citizens of Exsilium, has been shot and killed, and all immediate evidence points toward Jesse being the culprit.
As there's currently no means of handling murderers long-term, Jesse can look forward to an indefinite detention at the Exsilium Police Department. With no bail system, trial system, or even a super-efficient bribery system in place, the situation would look dire. But there's hope! In the form of the reluctant and antagonistic law-team of Miles Edgeworth, former prosecuting attorney, and Mia Fey, former defense attorney.
As Jesse is one of the Transports, the lawyers will approach the Chief of Police in a bid for running an exemplary trial to prove or disprove Jesse Pinkman's innocence. They will be granted one week to try, take testimony, cross examine, and present evidence in front of an elective judge and (something neither have had previously) jury of Transport and Exsilium native peers.
Jesse will ultimately be found innocent, though the whole of the trial system will likely crash and burn due to logic in the process.
Timeline of Events:
December 26th: A call is placed in to the Police Department. Gunshots have been heard in a given section of the city, and a patrol of Transport Officers are in the area. They respond to the call, find Jesse Pinkman at the scene of a crime, and take him in for questioning.
Later that day, the lawyers enter their plea to the Police Chief for an opportunity to run Jesse through a proper trial. He agrees to this insanity. Mia Fey takes on Jesse as his defense attorney. As the most experienced prosecutor currently known to Team Lawfingers, Franziska von Karma is assigned as the prosecuting attorney.
December 27th: The investigation for witnesses, evidence, and relative sanity begins. A search for jurors is initiated.
December 28th-December 31st: Trial proceedings occur. Witness testimony, evidence display, and ongoing police investigation.
January 1st: Conclusions speeches and jury deliberation.
January 2nd: Verdict announced. Reactions commence.
Where do we come in?
+ We need at least one to two police officers from the Transport Wing to respond to the call and bring Jesse in for questioning. Further police officers are invited to assist in gathering witness testimony, questioning the locals, combing over the crime scene, and anything at all they wish to do! It's free and open for those who are interested in this.
+ Any other PCs who people would like to have come up as suspects for the "actual" murderer.
+ A trial by peers means we're definitely looking for people who'd be interested in having their characters listen to this trainwreck and pass judgment on what actually happened when JOHN DOE was killed.
+ We would also love character witnesses for Jesse, as in any PC willing to testify on his behalf! Or against him.
+ And we would love, love, love people to be in the "audience" and pointing out how insanely stupid the shenanigans are. The "law" used in the Ace Attorney universe starts with "everyone is guilty" and ends with "surprise witnesses on stand and evidence introduced mid trial and convoluted murder stories and wild supposition" as the rule of the day.
This is meant to be fun and also demonstrate how little prepared anyone is to have a strict body of law from the past carried over to the present where the standards of everything have significantly changed. It'll be publicly broadcast in a few areas to citizens of Exsilium, but not on the intranet used by the Transports. It's only as visible as folks want it to be!
Oh, and Merry Christmas! God bless us, every last incompetent fool!
