HEY IT'S THAT PROMISED POLICE PLOTTINS
Hi guys! As discussed here and here, Exsilium is getting an IC police force of both NPC citizens and transports. This is going to be a masterpost of information and sign ups.
→ A police force?
While Exsilium didn't have one to begin with, as of September the citizens have been quietly finishing the process of putting one together, complete with their own station. They put up flyers recruiting people interested in helping, which is how Barnaby came to discover them and make an IC announcement about this.
In any case, while the force is largely made up of locals, they agreed to allow for a transport-only unit, which is under the supervision of an NPC played by the lovely
oceanwrath by the name of Thomas Sorenstam. The basic idea is that while this group will need to follow orders from him and do things like patrols and investigating NPC crimes and such, they'll have a fair bit of autonomy to keep an eye on transport-specific problems and to work out their internal ranking system.
→ What happens if my character wants to sign up?
There'll be paperwork to do at the station, and there'll also be testing to ensure that the people put on the force are decent people and not about to go undermining the rules or system. Everyone will get put through a training as well so they can all be on the same page. And they will be paid! 200 marques a month.
→ Is the Initiative involved in this?
SURE ARE. They're helping fund this whole thing! Thom is also, unlike most random civilians, pretty aware of them and has a contact with them and generally likes them.
→ Are there jails? Laws? Just what are they enforcing?
There are jails! Some are adjoining to the station, which will be monitored by both NPCs and PCs, and there are some in the Initiative Hold (which have been around). At the moment, they're primarily focused on dealing with existing crime (things like theft or murder which are fairly universally Not Okay) in the city - which isn't very common but does happen.
→ So what is the internal organization?
OKAY so the breakdown we're currently thinking about is like this:
Police Commissioner
Thomas Sorenstam
↓
Inspector
Barnaby Brooks, Jr.
↓
Sergeants
Tamora Jean Calhoun & Nathaniel Howe
↓
Constables/Assistance
Roslyn Small
Minato Arisato
Samus Aran
Priad
Conner Kent
Kratos Aurion
Hilda
Arthur Pendragon
Asami Sato
Keith Goodman
Wing
→ Security: Adam Jensen
→ Private Investigator: Naoto Shirogane
→ Law: Miles Edgeworth, Franziska von Karma, Yuri Petrov, and Maya Fey (assisting!).
That said, nothing is like completely set in stone and this is especially subject to change depending on the amount of interest, so if you have thoughts, please comment with them!
→ What's the station like?
It's walking distance from the Hold, and looks like this, if more run-down and with the y missing :( It's around three stories tall and houses all of the police, including the NPC officers and related people (who, it's worth remembering, vastly outnumber the transports)! The first floor houses administrative offices, and Thom's is on the second floor, and as there are only ~20 offices in total, there's plenty of sharing.
→ What does this mean for everyone else?
Well, it can be handwaved that the force is around doing things, generally having a presence and making things safer and whatnot. If anyone wants to plot out police involvement in a given thread or plot, you can ping this post or this thread or any one of us to get stuff rolling.
Also Thom is going to be posting in the near future, so there'll be opportunity for IC interactions/expressing interest/hassling/or whatever pretty soon as well!

SIGN UPS HI
Re: SIGN UPS HI
Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Nathaniel is a Grey Warden in canon, a group of guardians dedicated to protecting their world from darkspawn (nasty monsters WHO WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING). Their motto: In war, vigilance. In peace, victory. In death, sacrifice. So yeah.
How would they get involved? Nathaniel would definitely volunteer for the position of sergeant or any other role, really. He's good at offense, defense, has a very black and white sense of good and bad, and is committed to protecting basically anyone under his charge, or anyone in need of protecting.
Also, I never had the chance to bang into the original IC post or the OOC post, so no worries if there are other people who have already volunteered to take a more active role -- Nathaniel would basically be up for helping in any way possible.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): FBI for five years aw yeah.
How would they get involved? She'd actively turn down the role of sergeant, she doesn't want to be in charge of people at all. So yeah she'd just sort of quietly show up, sign up to be a constable, and start work.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): A greenhorn prosecuting attorney who believes the safest place for evidence is his personal satchel... was mentored by one of the most famous prosecuting attorneys of his era.
How would they get involved? INVESTIGATIVE LIAISON please and thank you; he can be contacted if necessary for anything that goes down but wants to remain in the loop for any information and will continue to remain in a position where he can push his own agendas (lawwws lawws lawwwwws). He is, unfortunately, not someone you want on your front lines and nor would he want to be because he kiiiind of considers actual police work beneath him.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): She's been a PI for... a very long time. She was born into a family of detectives. She's been doing this for years, man, even if she's just 16.
How would they get involved? PI. Always and forever PI. She's not going to be an actual officer, but you can call her if you need someone to help crack a tough case or just some extra hands.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Very young, Samus joined the Galactic Federation and proved to be quite the prodigy; quickly excelling in ranks to become a lead member of the Federation Police Force. The Federation's structure is FRUSTRATINGLY NEBULOUS at best, though it's implied that the Federation Police Force is a branch of the military, or that Samus floated between the police and military while she served. Either way, she duly has police and military experience, doing things from simple recon or civilian rescue to infiltrations, interrogation, making arrests, body guarding, etc etc. The paperwork side of it she's not a fan of, but she'll do her own if need be.
How would they get involved? She could easily fill the role of a Sergeant or Constable, but to be completely honest it'll be very circumstantial to see how long she lasts in a department that revolves around rules and regulations. If she's given the freedom to do things her own way (peace officer, security officer, special agent?), she'll probably be much happier with a job she'll be very good at, and most importantly, inclined to stay.
If that doesn't work out, Samus will still be very adamant about helping with JUSTICE, but instead she'll be playing vigilante space Batman about it and work from the shadows.
Probably breaking laws herself all over the place, oops.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Since he's been a child Adam has trained himself to become A SOLDIER OF JUSTICE. He has three degrees in Criminal Justice (really!) and joined the Detroit Police Department at 21. He volunteered for SWAT at 25, and quickly rose to team commander, staying there for another seven years, after which he went into Private Security (as head of a physical security team). All in all he has over ten years of experience and he's also very good at bossing people around, however he sometimes has a problem with authority himself if people are being unreasonable, stuck-up assholes/liars.
How would they get involved? WHICHEVER MAN. He can be a sergeant or whatever if you need one.
Re: SIGN UPS HI
Canon background in law enforcement (if any!):
He's a space marine, which means he's less of a cop and more what calls in when the police fail. That being said, he's also a loyal servant of the imperium which means he'll assist Eisenhorn and...
How would they get involved? haha, Priad will get called in as Eisenhorn's general dogsbody, scribe, and meat shield/swat team. he will mostly seem annoyed and quiet the whole time but he's got some excellent skills for police work if someone chose to use them, including massively boosted senses and an eidetic memory. Just put him on the forensic part of an investigation.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Does taking down the bad guys and having them ready for when the popos arrive count? Covert missions are mostly what the Young Justice ladies and gents dealt with. Saving the world and putting bad guys in their place, that sort of thing.
How would they get involved? He'd be fine with a lower role, definitely.
EARLY NEWBIE YUP
Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Kratos used to be a captain of the Tethe'allan army and had the prestigious task of also guarding the royal family. In Soul Campaign, he'd also been a member of the Watch, a group that patrolled the city.
How would they get involved? Kratos wouldn't mind taking the position of sergeant if it's available. As proven by canon, he's used to being in a higher ranking position and dealing with the various tasks required of such a position. Even if he can't get a high position, he'll be happy to help out as a constable. No matter the rank, it's still serving as an aide to the people and that's right up Kratos' alley.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Not exactly law enforcement, but she's a trained military badass and oversees a company of marines on an alien planet where they're fighting to prevent a race of parasitic cybernetic insects from escaping and making their way to earth where they would consume and destroy all life as we know it.
How would they get involved? Tamora doesn't do idle hands, so between missions she's definitely gonna need something to keep her occupied, and since keeping people safe is the name of her game this sort of thing would be right up her alley. Despite basically being the 'manager' of her troops she's not the type to just oversee and never get her hands dirty: she's where the buck stops and she knows it, and is actually more inclined to take a dangerous job herself than send one of her men to do it. She's super proactive and would never just sit and wait to see how something turns out; if something goes awry, she does everything she can to fix it ASAP. She's stern and takes nobody's crap, but despite being a bit heavy-handed she's not that mean lady everybody hates--in fact, if you make an impression and she takes a liking to you, chances are she's that lady who'll stand by you to the bitter end and will probably put her ass on the line for you. How about them apples?
That said, while she's used to running the show where she's from, a marine sergeant is still fairly low on the totem pole, so she'd love to keep that sergeant title, but she won't put up a fuss if she has to answer to someone else. Provided she's still allowed to knock some heads here and there.
Re: SIGN UPS HI
Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): She's the Champion of Unova in her version, and one of the Heroes of her region's legend: the Hero of Truth. Champions are regarded as the strongest trainer in the region they're the Champion of, and don't just wait around for challengers - they go where needed to protect the region they've fought so hard to be the strongest in.
How would they get involved? She'd volunteer for any position; she's happy to be helping. She would likely jump at a chance to do something that does not involve her sitting around or exploring, being honest.
Re: SIGN UPS HI
Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): As crown prince of Camelot, Arthur has a great deal of responsibility in overseeing the knights and guards of the kingdom--something like the captain of the guards without actually being called a captain or anything (because 'prince' is a much cooler title!!!). With all the hyjinks that go on during the events of the show, he's also part of the usual CSI: CAMELOT team that investigates strange beasts and magic and curses and things.
How would they get involved? Obviously since being a leader is what he's used to, Arthur would prefer that sort of role. He would also be pretty bitchy if anyone tried to get him to take too many orders... but that's not to say that I am NOT okay with him not getting to be a leader. Just warning you.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Her dad's in prison, but nobody needs to know that shh shh. Everything else, such as working alongside Chief Beifong and patrolling Republic City, was done outside the law.
How would they get involved? Asami wouldn't expect anything other than entry-level at the moment. She'll take orders and organize paperwork, but she'll insist on driving should they need transportation. When I say insist, I mean she's going to throw herself at the front of the line for the position.
Also omg I'd love for her to have a partner for Good Cop Bad Cop.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Superhero reality star which means he handles bagging criminals, rescuing people, keeping the peace and all that jazz in a flashy outfit.
How would they get involved? One of the lower positions. He's used to be ordered instead ordering around himself and would prefer anything out in the field instead of a desk job.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): Prosecutor since the age of thirteen. Also worked with the Interpol for a few cases.
How would they get involved?
being second best to Edgeworth at everythingInvestigations and paperwork, but mostly investigations. Takes over when Edgeworth's not there to assist with legal matters. Competes for it when he's there. Tends to be more hands-on and available during cases, but has a tendency to whip things.Probably needs to be partnered up with a nice person for important cases to prevent her from whipping all the things. Will threaten to cut everyone's pay.

Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): He is one of the most well known and well respected judges in Sternbild City. He is also a liaison to a police force of sorts as Hero TV's curator. He had a great deal of experience as a lawyer before becoming a judge.
How would they get involved? Yuri would prefer to be involved on the courtroom side of things. As a judge, ideally, but he's also quite capable of working as a lawyer.
now that we've established I'm a dumb :P
Canon background in law enforcement (if any!): NONE! But he's a member of the Circle of Light, a bunch of knights who swore to protect others. I think that might extend to wanting to keep the peace here, as well.
How would they get involved? In the nicest sense of the word 'peacekeeper'. He's not ambitious or particularly, in canon, skilled in investigating things, (and honestly he trusts all the wrong people) but he'd be a good night patrol type. Plus he can fly?
